If you experience abdominal pain, you may be suffering from pancreatic cancer. Although this condition is not life-threatening, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and bloating. In some cases, the cancer may block the bile duct, causing the gallbladder to become larger. The presence of a large mass under the right ribcage may also indicate the disease. A doctor will feel a lump under the ribcage and may order imaging tests to see if it’s present.

While most symptoms of pancreatic cancer are not immediately apparent, they can be vague and may be confused with other ailments. If you experience any of these symptoms, speak to your GP as they may be the first indications of pancreatic cancer. Although these symptoms may not be specific to pancreatic cancer, they may appear suddenly and may even come and go. While most people don’t experience symptoms until the cancer has spread to other organs, you should visit your doctor if they persist or have worsened.

Pain is another symptom of pancreatic cancer, although this can be difficult to distinguish from other conditions. Some people experience back pain, particularly in the mid to lower back. If you experience back pain, it may be the onset of pancreatic cancer. A tumor may also partially block the food pipe, making it harder for you to digest food. If you have back pain that is persistent, it may be due to a tumor on the pancreas.

Jaundice is one of the most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer. Around 10% of people with this disease have painless jaundice, but in other cases, the symptoms may be due to another ailment. Jaundice is the yellowing of skin and the whites of the eyes. Additionally, the urine and poo may be dark or lighter in color. The presence of jaundice is more likely in individuals with cancer of the head of the pancreas. Jaundice can also be a sign that your bile duct has become blocked.

Surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The Whipple procedure requires an abdominal incision and allows the surgeon to assess the size of the tumor and the extent of its spread. This surgery has minimal complications and has the potential to cure the disease in five to 20 percent of cases. Another less invasive procedure, laparoscopy, uses a flexible camera called a laparoscope to examine the pancreas.

Once a diagnosis is made, the doctor may order additional tests. The results of these tests will help determine the size and location of the cancer. Patients will likely need further tests in order to identify whether the condition has spread throughout their pancreas. In addition, they may need more tests to determine whether the cancer has spread to other parts of their body. In the end, the best treatment option will depend on the type of pancreatic cancer symptoms a patient has.

The patient may also experience delayed emptying of the stomach, a condition called exocrine insufficiency. Proton-pump inhibitors and H2 antagonists are drugs that block the production of gastric acid. Metoclopramide can also help clear the stomach’s contents. Pancreatic cancer is not easy to diagnose, and it is important to seek medical attention immediately to avoid complications.

Symptoms may include jaundice and abdominal pain. Jaundice can also be accompanied by weight loss. A tumor in the head of the pancreas can narrow the bile duct and block the flow of bile from the gallbladder to the small intestine. Because of this, bilirubin builds up in the blood. Some people may also experience itchiness in their skin, light colored stools, and unusually dark urine.

If a tumor is blocking the bile duct, the gallbladder can become enlarged and fill with excess bile. Imaging tests may also detect the presence of tumors on the gallbladder. In some cases, cancer may spread to other organs, including the lungs, blood vessels, and lymph nodes near the pancreas. This secondary cancer is called metastasis.

In general, pancreatic cancer is rare. About 50% of new cases are diagnosed in people over 75 years of age, but can occur in younger individuals. Early symptoms usually do not occur during the first stages of the disease, so it’s important to see your GP if you experience any of these symptoms. If they are sudden or begin abruptly, it’s important to see a doctor. You might have another health condition that’s causing these symptoms.
