Fortunately, pancreatic cancer symptoms aren’t common in early stages of the disease. Most symptoms can be identified through physical examination and testing. Diagnostic tests include CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds. A CT scan helps diagnose pancreatic cancer by building three-dimensional pictures of the body. The images can also guide a biopsy. This type of imaging is the only surefire way to diagnose pancreatic cancer.

Some research suggests that heavy exposure to chemicals at work is associated with pancreatic cancer. However, this is not proven. Studies have also shown that age increases the risk of pancreatic cancer. A majority of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are aged sixty or older. The disease is slightly more common in men than in women, which may be due to their higher rate of tobacco use. However, no specific diet is known to increase the risk of pancreatic cancer.
