If you have noticed one or more of these signs, you may have gastric cancer. Medical testing is performed to look for swelling and blood. Your doctor may also order blood tests and other lab tests. They may also refer you to a gastroenterologist, who specializes in digestive disorders. If you’re suspicious of cancer, you may wish to get a second opinion. Most doctors welcome second opinions and most health insurance companies cover the cost of a second opinion. If you’re still unsure, you may want to speak with your insurance company or an insurance provider to determine if you should get a second opinion.

Most patients experience multiple symptoms prior to a diagnosis. Although gastric cancer symptoms are similar to oesophageal cancer, most patients report several symptoms. Among participants, the most common ones were abdominal pain and dysphagia, which are associated with gastric cancer. However, each patient’s understanding of the symptoms differed greatly. Some participants experienced more than one symptom; others only had heartburn occasionally.

In some cases, stomach cancer symptoms may be mistaken for symptoms of other diseases. If you feel a full or swollen stomach, you could have gastric cancer. You may feel faint, have pale skin, and experience shortness of breath. You may vomit blood or dark, sticky feces, or have abnormal neurological changes. If the cancer has spread, other symptoms could occur, including bowel obstruction, fractures, and swelling of the abdomen due to fluid.

Imaging tests may be ordered to check for signs of gastric cancer. CT scans and endoscopic ultrasound are two common tests for this purpose. Barium swallow imaging involves viewing the digestive tract as liquid moves down it. Upper endoscopy is another type of testing that uses a thin tube and a camera to look for signs of cancer. These tests are used to confirm suspicions of gastric cancer. They may also show if the cancer has spread deeper.

Treatment for gastric cancer varies according to the stage of the disease. Surgery is the most common form of treatment for gastric cancer. It involves removing part or the entire stomach, as well as nearby lymph nodes and tissues. Sometimes the doctor may remove parts of the esophagus and the pancreas. Sometimes, surgery may be combined with chemotherapy or radiation. In severe cases, the cancer spreads to other organs. In some cases, the cancer reaches lymph nodes, which may be affected by chemotherapy.

Although there is no single cause of gastric cancer, certain lifestyle and environmental factors can increase the risk. People with chronic stomach inflammation have increased risk of developing the disease. People who have ulcers or have a history of infections may also be at risk for the disease. Furthermore, people with a history of certain lifestyle habits may be prone to developing gastric cancer if they are overweight or suffer from certain lifestyle habits. If these factors are present in your body, you should visit your doctor immediately.

In addition to these symptoms, stomach cancer is often diagnosed with the use of a biopsy. During this procedure, a small sample of stomach cells is removed and examined under a microscope for signs of cancer. A biopsy is usually conducted only if the endoscopy has detected suspicious findings. Proximal gastric cancer involves the first part of the stomach, while non-cardia cases affect the esophagus. Non-cardia stomach cancer occurs when an immune system cell called lymphocytes causes prolonged inflammation and can develop into gastric cancer. Non-cardia gastric cancer is associated with chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

People with a family history of gastric cancer are more likely to develop the disease. People with a strong family history of stomach cancer are also more susceptible. Certain hereditary syndromes also increase the risk. In addition to the symptoms mentioned above, simple blood and stool tests can raise suspicion of the disease. However, doctors should not disregard any abnormalities in the patient’s stomach, although they may be concerned about the possibility of a tumor.

Though the incidence of gastric cancer is declining worldwide, it is the second most common cause of death in people with cancer. The disease is usually asymptomatic at its early stages, and the chances of recovery are not very high. As a result, gastric cancer has a poor prognosis, with a five-year survival rate of less than 30%. Although the symptoms of gastric cancer are similar to other gastrointestinal illnesses, they need a physician’s evaluation to ensure proper treatment.
