The pain and discomfort in the upper right corner of the abdomen can be signs of gallbladder cancer. This disease can also be accompanied by a swollen or tender abdomen, which is more likely to be a symptom of a less serious gastrointestinal condition. Symptoms of gallbladder cancer can also include vomiting and jaundice. Fortunately, the majority of gallbladder cancers are not life-threatening.

Gallbladder cancer is typically staged according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer TNM staging system. Stages are based on the extent of the cancer’s spread. Stage 0 is known as “carcinoma in situ” and stage IIb is classified as “tumor in situ.” Stage III is characterized by tumors that have spread beyond the gallbladder and have invaded nearby muscle and connective tissue. Stage IIIA is usually the most severe of the symptoms, and may also spread to nearby organs.

The most common gallbladder cancer symptoms are abdominal pain, especially in the upper right portion. A general loss of appetite is also common. Symptoms of gallbladder cancer can include a yellowish appearance of the skin, eyelids, and stools. Jaundice is caused by too much bilirubin in the blood, which is the substance that gives stools their color. Light, gray, or yellow stools are other warning signs of gallbladder cancer.

In some cases, cancer cells can spread to the nearby lymph nodes or the main blood vessel leading to the liver. However, cancers with the same stage do not spread to distant organs, and usually have similar outlooks. If this is the case, your doctor will perform certain tests and procedures to determine the cause of your symptoms. If your symptoms are consistent with the stage of the cancer, it will help you make a decision on whether or not to undergo a gallbladder removal.

Other gallbladder cancers may have similar symptoms. However, these can be more serious. While they are rare, they are nonetheless important to recognize. The first thing to do is to consult a physician if you suspect gallbladder cancer. The risk of gallbladder cancer is high for people with certain conditions such as chronic inflammation and porcelain gallbladder. Also, people with gallbladder disease, gallstones, and bile duct abnormalities are at an increased risk.

Imaging tests are a good way to diagnose gallbladder cancer. MRI scans produce detailed images of the gallbladder and the bile ducts. The patient lies on a bed inside the MRI machine for about 20 minutes to an hour. The physician will insert a fine tube through a vein to help visualize the gallbladder. Once the test is complete, the physician will then diagnose the cause of your symptoms.

Although gallbladder cancer is rare, it is still a serious condition. If you suspect you are suffering from any of the symptoms, make an appointment with your healthcare provider immediately. The earlier it is detected, the better the outcome. As mentioned, early treatment can significantly increase your chance of survival. The following symptoms are some of the most common of Gallbladder Cancer. There are several ways to treat the disease.

Liver function tests are often necessary to diagnose gallbladder cancer. These tests check the levels of certain substances in the liver, such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). A higher level of CA 19-9 in the blood can indicate the presence of gallbladder cancer. If you suspect gallbladder cancer, your doctor may recommend liver biopsy. You will also need to undergo a liver function test to rule out gallstones and inflammation.

Treatment for Gallbladder Cancer usually involves surgery. If surgery is not possible, patients will most likely receive chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice if the cancer has spread to the liver or lymph nodes. The chemotherapy drug cisplatin is an example of one type of chemotherapy. In contrast to radiation, chemotherapy does not destroy the gallbladder, but can kill cancer cells. Patients should be aware that treatment options for this disease vary, and may not be appropriate for everyone.

Gallbladder cancer is rare and usually develops silently. Early detection is critical because the cancer is often difficult to detect. Symptoms of gallbladder cancer include a pear-shaped organ under the liver. The gallbladder produces bile, a substance that aids digestion. The gallbladder cancer symptoms may be a sign of a larger problem. In addition, gallstones can lead to the development of gallbladder cancer.
