Gastric cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is a deadly type of cancer that develops in the lining of the stomach. While stomach cancer incidence is decreasing in the United States, it is still the second leading cause of death in the world. This disease is closely associated with lifestyle choices, genetics, and environmental triggers. Thankfully, this cancer is usually curable in its early stages, making it worth it to learn more about the disease’s symptoms and how to detect them.

At an early stage, a tumor may be so small that it does not cause any symptoms. However, as it grows, the patient will notice that swallowing is difficult. As the tumor enlarges, the esophagus narrows. Other symptoms include indigestion, heartburn, choking, and vomiting. Patients may also experience involuntary weight loss. These are just a few of the possible Gastric Cancer Symptoms.

The diagnosis of gastric cancer is based on a number of factors, including your weight and any history of gastrointestinal problems. As mentioned above, gastric cancer may cause weight loss without a known cause. Another common symptom is ascites, or fluid buildup in the abdominal area. Diagnostic tests involve imaging of the stomach and esophagus, as well as a physical examination to check for lumps or other unusual symptoms.

Approximately half of the cohort reported experiencing dysphagia prior to diagnosis. This was attributed to oesophageal cancer, but gastric cancer also accounts for 8% of cases of dysphagia. Another half of the participants reported experiencing heartburn, one of the most common symptoms of gastric cancer. Most of these patients experienced heartburn every day of the week or more, and 41 of them had frequent heartburn.

If the symptoms are present, the disease has spread to the deeper layers of the stomach and may have already invaded lymph nodes surrounding the stomach. This stage of the disease may have spread to nearby organs but has not yet spread to distant areas. In such cases, surgery or chemo may be necessary. Surgical treatment may include endoscopic resection, or endoscopic submucosal dissection. The surgeon will remove a portion of the cancer.

Treatment options for gastric cancer depend on the stage of the disease. Treatment for this cancer typically includes surgery, though other treatments may be recommended first. While gastric cancer is rare, symptoms can last for weeks. Symptoms of gastric cancer should prompt a visit to the doctor. There are several other treatments available, such as medication or surgery. If the symptoms persist after your initial diagnosis, it is a good idea to seek a second opinion.

People with a family history of gastric cancer have a greater risk than others. Various factors, such as smoking, NSAID drugs, and excessive weight, can increase a person’s risk. Smoking is another risk factor, which can double the risk of developing gastric cancer. Moreover, it increases the risk of getting an infection. While there is no cure for gastric cancer, there are steps you can take to reduce your chances of developing it.

Alarming symptoms of gastric cancer can help you get a diagnosis of the disease in the earliest stages. While they may not be a definitive indicator of cancer progression, they can be used as a guide to help patients cope with the disease and get the best possible treatment. A physician can evaluate the severity of your symptoms to help you make an informed decision. In addition, they may be able to prescribe the right treatment.

There are two types of gastric cancer. Stage 0 is the first type of cancer, and stage 0 is called carcinoma in situ. If it spreads to nearby organs, it is known as metastatic gastric cancer. Patients who do not develop metastatic disease will generally have a five-year survival rate between twenty-six percent and ninety-five percent. Moreover, the earlier the diagnosis is made, the better the chance of recovery.

After a diagnosis of gastric cancer, treatment may involve chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Radiation therapy is often used after surgery and chemotherapy is often given to control bleeding and treat symptoms. Depending on the stage of the cancer and the patient’s overall health, treatment may vary. Surgery is the most common form of treatment. During this procedure, a surgeon will remove part of the stomach and remove lymph nodes that surround the tumor.

The median age for diagnosis of gastric cancer in the United States is 68 years. However, fewer than two percent of gastric cancer cases occur in individuals younger than 35. This suggests that the disease is a more aggressive variant than most people realize. Genetic predisposition to this type of cancer is another risk factor. In addition, the patient should be aware of gastric cancer symptoms. When they experience any of these symptoms, they should seek immediate medical attention.
