When children have leukemia, their appearance may be pale and tired. Their breathing may become labored as their blood carries less oxygen. They may also develop small red dots on the skin, caused by bleeds in small blood vessels. Because the white blood cells in the body are not capable of fighting off infection, children with leukemia may have repeated infections. They may also experience bone and joint pain that mimics arthritis.

Some of the leukemia symptoms include frequent infections, which can be life-threatening. Leukemia patients may also experience muscle weakness and loss of muscle control. In rare cases, a child with leukemia may develop a lump beneath the skin called a chloroma. A doctor can give you a detailed list of leukemia symptoms and help you determine if you have the disease. If you are experiencing these symptoms, talk with your doctor as soon as possible.

Unlike acute leukemia, chronic leukemia does not typically present symptoms until the disease has progressed. In fact, some patients have no symptoms at all. They are typically diagnosed through routine blood tests and physical exams. Some patients may experience drenching night sweats and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Although these symptoms are usually nonspecific, they should be evaluated immediately. These signs of leukemia should prompt you to consult with your doctor if they persist.

The first step in leukemia treatment is a diagnosis. The doctor will take blood and bone marrow samples to identify the type of cancer and the extent of its invasion. The results of these tests are used to create a treatment plan. A biopsy of the leukemia cells is done using a bone marrow sample. Other leukemia symptoms may include increased pain, swollen organs, and bone marrow expansion.

Other common signs of leukemia include joint and bone pain. The leukemia cells tend to accumulate in the liver and spleen, which may result in organ enlargement. Children with leukemia may also limp or not walk as they normally would. Sometimes, leukemia cells may invade the cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid surrounding the brain. This can cause a headache. Leukemia can lead to many other side effects and complications, so it is important to understand the risk factors that are associated with your condition.

As with all cancers, treatment is key. The best outcome is achieved with aggressive therapy. Treatments include constant follow-up visits. However, it is important to note that the outlook for the survivors depends on the type of leukemia they have. In addition to medical treatment, cancer survivors may experience side effects such as infection, skin rash, and bone pain. Besides undergoing treatment, children should also practice healthy habits to improve their overall health.

There are two types of leukemia – acute and chronic. In both cases, the blood cells are faulty and unable to fight off infections. The cancerous cells may also damage organs. These cells are not mature enough to fight infections, and they may affect red blood cells, platelets, and other types of white blood cells. Acute leukemia develops very quickly, so the symptoms may be hard to notice at first.

A diagnosis of leukemia is based on the signs and symptoms of the disease. The signs of acute lymphocytic leukemia occur in young children, while chronic myelogenous leukemia affects adults over the age of 70. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is the most common type of chronic adult leukemia. These patients may not show any signs for years. Symptoms can include fever, weakness, fatigue, and weight loss.

People with leukemia have a high number of abnormal white blood cells, which are abnormal and cause a rise in leukemia. The disease develops when the DNA in the bone marrow is damaged. The cancer cells grow out of control and don’t die like normal healthy cells. Instead, they continue to build up and take up space, preventing the development of normal blood cells. Leukemia symptoms can be life-threatening, and early diagnosis is essential to improving the patient’s prognosis.

The American Cancer Society reports that 61,000 Americans will be diagnosed with leukemia this year. The risk of getting leukemia is highest in people who have had chemotherapy or radiation for another cancer. There are also certain genetic conditions that increase the risk of developing leukemia, such as Down syndrome and neurofibromatosis. Exposure to these substances may also be a result of radiation therapy. Fortunately, treatment can be started before the disease progresses to the stage where symptoms are noticeable.
