There are many symptoms of bile duct cancer. You may be able to spot these through your family and doctor. Other symptoms may include mouth sores, vomiting, and hair loss. Although you may have many concerns, it is vital to talk with your health care provider to discuss treatment options. You may also want to seek support from groups like AMMF or Macmillan. You may also decide to make lifestyle changes to improve your health and your chances of recovery.

Your doctor will perform a physical exam and focus on your belly to determine if you have bile duct cancer. He or she may also order blood tests and imaging scans to see how well the ducts are functioning. Depending on the type of cancer, a doctor may perform a biopsy in order to determine its grade and potential to spread. However, the biopsy cannot be confirmed until the cancer is present and the doctor is able to see a tumor.

Other symptoms of bile duct cancer include: persistent inflammation of the bile ducts, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis and ulcerative colitis. Besides, people with chronic liver disease, such as cirrhosis, are more likely to develop bile duct cancer. Parasitic infections and stones in the liver increase the risk of developing bile duct cancer. Although liver stones are rare in the North American population, they are common in Asian countries.

There are several types of treatments for bile duct cancer. Some treatments are considered standard and others are experimental, meaning they are not yet available to the public. The goal of treatment is to control the cancer or ease its symptoms. You and your healthcare team should discuss your treatment options with your health care provider so that you know which option best fits your needs. If you are currently receiving chemotherapy for a different condition, you may be able to receive an experimental treatment.

When you have a physical exam for bile duct cancer, your doctor will check for tenderness in your abdomen and right upper quadrant beneath your ribs. A quarter of patients with bile duct cancer will have an enlarged liver, which can be felt during a physical exam. Additionally, bilirubin levels can be checked during a general examination by looking at the white part of the eye and under the tongue. Finally, your doctor may conduct a blood test that can detect bile duct cancer and its stage.

Surgery is the most common treatment for bile duct cancer. This treatment method involves the removal of the affected bile duct and lymph nodes. The cancer is usually removed with a margin of healthy tissue. In some cases, surgery may also involve removing the lymph nodes and the bile duct itself. Sometimes, a liver transplant is necessary, which is rare and expensive. A liver transplant can also cure the disease.

In addition to jaundice, other symptoms of bile duct cancer include abdominal pain, bloating, and weight loss. You may also experience low-grade fever. Some patients do not have any symptoms until they have a large tumor. In addition to these signs, bile duct cancer patients may also have a loss of appetite, loss of energy, and decreased clotting factors in the blood.

The most common bile duct cancer symptoms include abdominal pain, usually on the right side, near the ribs. However, abdominal pain may also be caused by other less serious conditions such as gallstones or an infection. Additionally, jaundice, an elevated amount of bile in the bloodstream, can cause itchy skin. If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s recommended that you visit a doctor for further testing and diagnosis.

Your doctor will conduct a variety of tests and procedures to determine the presence of bile duct cancer. You will also undergo a biopsy. If cancer cells are present, an interventional radiologist may obtain a biopsy of the affected area using a needle threaded through the skin. During this procedure, your doctor can evaluate whether you can have a surgery to remove the tumor. If you do have bile duct cancer, your doctor will perform a biopsy to determine whether the disease has spread to other parts of the body.

Because the bile ducts are so deep inside the body, early symptoms are often nonexistent. Even if you have gallstones, you may not even know you have cancer in the bile ducts. This means that early tumors may go undetected during routine physical exams. This makes it all the more important to get diagnosed as soon as possible. And with the right treatment, you can avoid any further complications or even death.
