There are many different types of stomach cancer, but gastric cancer is the most common. This form of the disease begins in the lining of the stomach and has spread to the lymph nodes around the area. However, it may not spread as far as the lymph nodes in the neck, head, or chest. To determine whether you may have gastric cancer, you should first undergo a medical exam to check for any symptoms.

The cause of stomach cancer is unknown, but certain risk factors increase the risk. Family history of stomach cancer, smoking, and eating a diet high in processed meats are all risk factors. Some genetic conditions that may increase the risk of stomach cancer include Lynch syndrome, Familial Polyposis, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. In addition, individuals with certain mutations in the BRCA genes may have a higher risk of stomach cancer. Regardless of cause, obesity and excessive alcohol consumption may increase your risk of developing stomach cancer.

While stomach cancer is more common among men, the symptoms are similar in women. According to the American Cancer Society, there will be about 26,380 new cases of stomach cancer in 2022, which includes 15,900 men and 10,480 women. Of these patients, 11,090 will die from this disease. While gastric cancer is more prevalent in men than in women, it is mostly diagnosed in people over 65. While this type of cancer is often fatal, it can be curable.

A physical exam can help detect any potential problems before it progresses to the point that it causes serious complications. For instance, some symptoms may be similar to those of other conditions, such as esophageal cancer or gastritis. For instance, you may notice mild pain when swallowing or swollen abdominal pain after eating, or the stomach can feel full after eating. In addition to the physical exam, you may also notice a change in the pain or sensation in the abdomen as the cancer progresses.

As with all types of cancer, stomach cancer has several risk factors. Certain diseases and certain genetic conditions make an individual more likely to develop stomach adenocarcinoma. Symptoms may be present despite the absence of signs. Some symptoms of gastric cancer include an enlarged liver, swollen pancreas, or abdominal pain. Symptoms of stomach cancer are a result of many factors, including genetic, environmental, and immune factors.

Surgery is another treatment option for patients with this disease. The surgery removes the affected part of the stomach and nearby lymph nodes. The esophagus, a tube connecting the stomach to the small intestine, and lymph nodes. This allows the patient to continue eating after the surgery. In advanced stages, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be part of the treatment. It’s important to note that gastric cancer can invade nearby lymph nodes, and may also spread to distant organs.

The risk for developing gastric cancer depends on whether you have a family history of this disease. Some people have the disease because of a genetic mutation. However, other factors can increase your risk, including being overweight, drinking alcohol, or smoking. People with a family history of gastric cancer are at increased risk because they have certain genes linked to certain types of the disease. Therefore, screening for this disease is not routine in the United States.

The alarm symptoms have an important role in the diagnosis of gastric cancer. These alarm symptoms may reveal the location and stage of the cancer. They may also give you a prognostic value. While alarm symptoms are not diagnostic in themselves, they are still useful in assessing the severity of the disease. The early detection of gastric cancer is vital to the patient’s survival. But, as the symptoms of gastric cancer evolve, the diagnosis may be delayed.

If you suspect you may have gastric cancer, your doctor will want to know all the details about your health. Your doctor may order a blood test or request lab tests. In rare cases, they may refer you to a gastroenterologist, who specializes in digestive problems. If you suspect you may have gastric cancer, you may want to get a second opinion. Usually, doctors welcome second opinions and will even cover your treatment. Many health insurance plans cover these services as part of the plan.

While you should avoid gastric cancer symptoms as much as possible, your doctor may perform surgery to remove the entire affected area. An endoscopic procedure called a subtotal gastrectomy removes the entire stomach and some surrounding tissue. This surgery is done when the cancer has spread throughout the entire stomach. During the surgery, part of the esophagus, which connects the stomach to the duodenum, will also be removed. Often, lymph nodes will be removed as part of the surgery.
