A person’s colon is usually covered with layers of tissue called the mucosa. If cancer cells are detected at this layer, the disease is considered stage 0 or carcinoma in situ. In stage 1, cancer cells are confined to the rectum or colon’s inner layer. Stage 2 cancer has spread to the colon’s wall, but has not yet reached nearby lymph nodes or distant organs. Finally, stage 4 cancer cells have spread throughout the body and have metastasized.

Most colorectal cancer cases occur without any known cause, but about 10% are due to inherited syndromes and 20% are caused by family clusters. Although polyps are usually benign, some can turn into cancer in the long run. Adenomatous and hyperplastic polyps are the two most common types of polyps and are found in the lower part of the colon. If not detected and treated early, colon cancer can spread and be deadly.

Because colorectal cancer symptoms are so varied, it is important to see your doctor if you suspect you have the disease. However, colorectal cancer symptoms can be caused by other medical conditions as well. If you have hemorrhoids or bowel disease, you should see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis. They may also recommend a biopsy if they suspect a cancerous condition.

Typically, people with colorectal cancer will experience symptoms that are similar to other health problems. However, some people may experience these symptoms only in the later stages. In addition to colon cancer symptoms, people can also experience other symptoms, such as bleeding or a high fever. A blood test may also reveal a low red blood cell count, which is another sign. If your symptoms persist for more than a few weeks, you should speak with your doctor immediately and ask for a colonoscopy.

While many people report experiencing no symptoms prior to being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should see your doctor for a screening. The sooner you discover colon cancer, the better your chances of cure. In fact, up to 90% of colorectal cancer can be cured in its early stages. Your doctor will discuss the screening options and how frequently you should have the screenings.

Colorectal cancer begins in the lining of the colon and rectum, two parts of the digestive system. Stage 0 is an early stage of the disease and treatment is usually simple. Surgery is usually necessary if cancer cells have spread beyond the colon wall and have spread to nearby organs. A stage III colon cancer is considered to be an advanced stage. And in stage III, cancer cells have already reached lymph nodes, affecting the internal organs of the body.

While some people experience no colorectal cancer symptoms, others may suffer from rectal bleeding or have other GI problems. Other symptoms include irregular bowel movements, narrow-shaped stools, and blood in stools. In some cases, the patient may also experience unexplained weight loss and fatigue. If the symptoms do occur, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. If the symptoms persist, you may be dealing with an underlying condition or a hemorrhoid.

Colorectal cancer is a condition that causes bleeding of the colon and can lead to a variety of health problems, such as an ulcer or blood in the stool. Colorectal cancer is a dangerous disease, but it is preventable. Early detection is the key to survival. In most cases, surgery and chemotherapy are effective, especially when the disease is caught early. If the cancer has spread to nearby organs, surgery can cure it.

Surgical treatment for colon cancer varies. A surgeon may remove a portion of the colon and neighboring lymph nodes. He may reattach the colon to the rectum with the use of a special instrument. Other treatments may include palliative care, which focuses on treating symptoms and improving quality of life. Patients often choose surgery as their primary treatment, as it removes cancerous tissue and reconnects the bowel. However, the procedure is invasive and has side effects.

Colon cancer is very treatable if caught early. As long as the disease has not spread to the other organs, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. With newer treatments, however, the disease has become more common among young adults, with more than half of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer dying before age 50. This is an encouraging sign, as early detection is key to improving the chance of survival.
