The first signs of colorectal cancer are changes in the cells of the colon. These abnormal cells eventually grow and become cancers. The most common type of colorectal tumor is adenocarcinoma. If discovered early, these polyps can be removed by a doctor. If not, they can grow and spread. To avoid the formation of cancer, they should be removed as soon as possible.

The most common way to diagnose colorectal cancer is by having your colon inspected. Colonoscopies have the highest accuracy of all diagnostic tests. They are performed using a long, thin tube called a colonoscope. It contains a camera and a light for examining the colon. During the procedure, polyps may be removed or a biopsy taken. Colorectal cancer can be curable if caught early.

If the cancer has spread, surgery can remove the affected colon. However, this treatment cannot prevent it from spreading. However, removing the blockage can relieve the symptoms. Colorectal cancer surgery can be either open or laparoscopic. Open surgery requires several large incisions while laparoscopic surgery makes tiny ones. Robotic devices are often used during colon cancer surgery to remove early cancerous tissues. The surgeon will remove the polyps and some of the colon tissue during this procedure.

When colorectal cancer is detected early, it may be undetectable in the beginning. Screening is recommended for everyone at age 45, but some people may need to undergo an earlier screening. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramps, gas, and bloating. Sometimes, nausea may be present. In severe cases, the symptoms may occur without a clear diagnosis. Colorectal cancer can cause bowel problems, including pain in the abdomen and weight loss.

A physician will be able to diagnose colorectal cancer in a patient. The symptoms may be mild or severe, depending on the location of the cancer and its metastatic stage. Your healthcare provider will review your health history, ask questions about your health risks and if you have any family history of the disease. He may also perform a physical exam to rule out any complications or diagnose the condition. The doctor will recommend treatment, if necessary.

The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and nearby organs. If the cancer has reached a distant organ, it is considered stage 4 colorectal cancer. It has spread beyond the colon’s mucosa and muscle lining. Symptoms of Stage 4 cancer may include pain, nausea, and vomiting. In some cases, treatment may be as simple as removing the affected lesion. When colon cancer has spread to lymph nodes, it is diagnosed in stage 4 and should be immediately treated.

Colorectal cancer symptoms vary from person to person and can be triggered by other conditions. The symptoms of colorectal cancer may resemble those of hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, and other GI problems. Symptoms of colorectal cancer can also occur without symptoms. Regardless of location, colorectal cancer should be investigated by a doctor to ensure the proper diagnosis and treatment.

If found early, colorectal cancer can be treated or cured. Screening is recommended for people over 45 years old. Eating a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables, wheat bran, and plenty of exercise will also help prevent the disease. Additionally, quitting smoking, drinking alcohol, and excess calories are all helpful ways to lower your risk. In addition to screening, preventing colorectal cancer is as easy as following the advice of your doctor.

Despite the fact that colorectal cancer is becoming more common in younger people, a screening test can detect it early. If caught early, colorectal cancer can be more easily treated than if it’s discovered later. Screening for colorectal cancer is recommended for most people starting at age 45. However, screening may be recommended earlier in the disease if a risk factor is present.
