Colorectal cancer typically starts in the lining of the colon or rectum, both part of the digestive system. If there are any of these symptoms, you should be evaluated by a doctor. This condition begins in the mucosa, which is the inner layer of the colon, and may spread to nearby lymph nodes or distant organs. It may be an early symptom of colorectal cancer, but it’s still very serious.

Because the symptoms of colorectal cancer are similar to those of many other diseases, you may be experiencing them without knowing it. Your healthcare provider can run certain tests to determine if they are due to colorectal cancer. In addition to examining your bowels, they will also ask you about your overall health history, any family history of the disease, and if you have any risk factors. A physical exam may be required to rule out other medical conditions.

Some of the colorectal cancer symptoms you may experience include blood in the stool. Blood in the stool can be bright red, dark red, tarry, or brick-red. Those who are experiencing bleeding in the bowel should seek medical attention immediately. Other symptoms that you should watch for are anemia or a low red blood cell count. A blood test may reveal other problems, such as a lowered red blood cell count or anemia. These signs should never be ignored, as they may be symptomatic of colorectal cancer.

Early colorectal cancer symptoms are often minor, but they can indicate the cancer’s progress. It’s important to be screened for colorectal cancer if you’re over the recommended age for screening. Many people report no colorectal cancer symptoms prior to their diagnosis. Therefore, it’s important to discuss screening options with your health care provider. However, if you suspect a colorectal cancer, surgery is the best option.

When a person is suspected of developing colorectal cancer, their doctor will perform a full history and physical examination. The history will allow them to assess their risk factors, comorbidities, and the extent of their disease. In addition, they may have a CEA, urinalysis, and coagulation profile. These tests may show anemia, hepatitis, or other cancer-related conditions.

Colon cancer can be cured if caught early. While the exact cause of colon cancer is unknown, prevention is key. Regular screenings are recommended for people aged 45 years and older. A healthy diet, physical activity, and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer. Also, avoid smoking and alcohol, as both are known risk factors. And don’t forget to get screened if you have any of these risk factors.

If the diagnosis is not made by a biopsy, a patient may have to undergo surgery. A colonoscopy may not be possible before the surgery, but a careful palpation of the colon during the procedure should be done three to six months after the surgery. A doctor will then recommend treatment based on the findings of the biopsy. If the doctor feels that you have colorectal cancer, they may recommend a genetic test to determine the exact cause.

A doctor can diagnose colorectal cancer if you see any of these signs or experience any of the other symptoms. Many colon cancers are caused by genetic changes. Inheritance in Lynch syndrome increases your risk of colorectal cancer. Thankfully, it’s possible to cure colon cancer if detected early. If the symptoms appear, consult a physician immediately. Even a minor colon polyp can lead to cancer.

A colon cancer screening test can detect a tumor in its early stages, when it’s more treatable. A doctor can develop a treatment and prevention plan based on the individual’s risk factors and age. Screening is usually recommended for people at least forty-five, but it can be done earlier if you’re at increased risk. Symptomatic symptoms can also be associated with tumor size and location.
