A medical examination may reveal blood, swollen lymph nodes, or other suspicious findings. An endoscopic ultrasound examination may also be required to identify if cancer has spread deeper into the stomach. In this case, a biopsy may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis. Gastric cancer symptoms can vary from patient to patient. Your doctor will determine if these signs are indicative of cancer. In some cases, a biopsy may not be necessary.

One study showed that nearly half of participants experienced more than one symptom. The most common symptoms for gastric cancer included regurgitation and upper abdominal pain, while the most common symptoms for oesophageal cancer were fatigue and dysphagia. Although participants did not report all symptoms at the initial consultation, most reported experiencing a symptom at least some of the time. In contrast, only seven percent reported experiencing all of their symptoms at least once.

Treatment for gastric cancer involves surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. Chemotherapy can control bleeding and relieve symptoms. Surgery remains the primary treatment option for most patients, but there are also new treatments available. New treatment approaches are being tested in clinical trials. Patients with gastric cancer should see a doctor immediately if they suspect they have this disease. The most effective cancer treatment depends on the stage of the cancer. The stage depends on how much cancer has spread through the gastric wall, whether lymph nodes have been involved, and whether it has metastasized to distant organs.

Surgery is the most common treatment for gastric cancer. A surgeon will remove a part of the stomach with the cancer, surrounding lymph nodes, and other tissue near the tumor. The surgeon may also remove the patient’s spleen, which produces lymphocytes, stores red blood cells, and filters the blood. The spleen is located on the left side of the abdomen. Endoscopic mucosal resection is another surgical option for patients with early-stage gastric cancer. The procedure was developed in Japan and is now available in some centers in the United States.

Stage 4 of the disease is the most dangerous type. By this point, the cancer has spread into the deeper layers of the stomach and has spread to nearby lymph nodes. In advanced cases, the cancer may have spread to distant organs. But, if the cancer has not spread beyond the stomach, the patient may still be able to live a normal life. There is no cure for gastric cancer, but it is possible to detect it early and get it treated.

A team of specialists will help diagnose and treat gastric cancer. Your doctor can refer you to a specialist. They may include a gastroenterologist, surgeon, and medical oncologist. A registered dietitian may also be part of the treatment team. Most doctors are willing to refer patients to a second physician if you suspect you have gastric cancer. Some health insurance companies will even pay for your second opinion if you request it.

However, stomach cancer symptoms can mimic those of other conditions. For example, they can be symptoms of esophagitis, gastritis, and peptic ulcer disease. They are similar to the symptoms of gastroenteritis, a bacterial infection, or a virus. Despite the fact that stomach cancer symptoms are usually more severe than other types of disease, they are still indicative of a potential underlying cause.

Although most cases are treatable, the disease should not be ignored. Early detection is the key to a successful treatment. While surgery is the standard treatment, chemotherapy and radiation therapies may be used for larger tumors. Identifying and treating gastric cancer is essential, because the earlier it is detected, the better. When the cancer is in an advanced stage, the outlook is poor. But if detected early, surgery may be the only option.

In general, individuals with a family history of gastric cancer are at a higher risk. They have higher rates of obesity than non-smokers, and may also be more likely to develop the disease. Smoking and eating heavily preserved foods increase the risk of developing gastric cancer. But even if your family is not at risk, a diet that is low in fruits and vegetables may be. Fortunately, early detection may not have any symptoms.

Early gastric cancer symptoms may be very similar to the symptoms of a benign gastric ulcer. In fact, they may be mistaken for those of advanced gastric cancer. While dyspepsia and epigastric pain are common, weight loss is relatively uncommon. Further research should be done to clarify the relationship between early diagnosis and early treatment. If your symptoms are a sign of gastric cancer, it’s time to schedule an appointment with a physician.
