One of the main symptoms of gallbladder cancer is jaundice. The disease is caused by a blockage in the ducts that drain bile from the liver. Bilirubin, which gives stool its yellow color, builds up in the blood and settles in different parts of the body, including the skin and the white part of the eye. In addition to yellowing of the skin and the eyes, gallbladder cancer can cause the gallbladder to swell. It may also spread to parts of the liver. Symptoms of gallbladder cancer include abdominal pain and tenderness, and may be confirmed with an ultrasound.

Most patients who develop gallbladder cancer are asymptomatic at presentation and describe vague symptoms. Occasionally, patients may present with jaundice, which can be confused with cholecystitis. Other symptoms include clay-colored stools, cola-colored urine, and skin pruritus. A person with a familial syndrome called Mirizzi syndrome is also at risk for gallbladder cancer. Weight loss may occur in cases of advanced cancer.

If the gallbladder cancer tumor spreads, a diagnosis of stage IIIA is made. Stage IIIA is the most advanced stage. It spread to distant organs like the liver, peritoneum, and lungs. Cancer with the same stage is more likely to respond to treatment. Therefore, the doctor will perform a biopsy to determine the cancer’s stage. This will help the doctor decide the proper treatment for the patient.

Abdominal pain is another symptom of gallbladder cancer. The pain typically occurs in the upper right abdomen and may also be accompanied by a loss of appetite. A person may also experience jaundice, a condition in which there is too much bilirubin in the blood. If this happens, the person may experience light, gray, or jaundice colored stools. In addition to abdominal pain, a person may experience fatigue.

A biopsy is a surgical procedure that extracts tissue samples to diagnose the disease. It involves inserting a thin needle through the abdominal wall. CT or ultrasonography may be used to guide the needle. In severe cases, surgery may be required. Diagnostic laparoscopy is a common procedure. Open laparotomy is the other procedure. Bile stents can be inserted during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

X-rays are also an important test for a diagnosis of gallbladder cancer. The x-rays will show the location of any blockages and the extent of the tumour. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete this procedure. The scan will help determine whether surgical removal of the gallbladder is necessary. The doctor will decide if surgery is needed to remove the gall bladder. After the x-ray, the patient will be given the results of this procedure.

Some people have no symptoms of gallbladder cancer until it is advanced. The symptoms of gallbladder cancer may be similar to those of gallstones or gallbladder inflammation. For this reason, it is important to see a healthcare provider right away to determine if you have gallbladder cancer. However, it’s important to note that there are other possible causes of gallbladder cancer, and the best way to determine if you have the disease is through a medical examination.

Treatments for gallbladder cancer may vary. Surgical treatment includes surgery or radiation therapy. Depending on the stage of the disease, surgery may be the only option. Surgery is the only cure for Stage II or less. Treatment may include surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. It will help control symptoms while the cancer is still in the organ, but may also result in the loss of function in the kidneys or liver.

Lifestyle changes may also reduce the risk of gallbladder cancer. While you can’t completely prevent the disease, you can minimize your risk by maintaining a healthy weight. A healthy diet is also essential for a strong immune system. Limit processed foods and limit red meat intake. In addition, regular moderate exercise helps build up the immune system. So, while you’re waiting for your diagnosis, you can ask questions about returning to work or school.

Gallbladder cancer can occur at any stage, from Stage 0 to Stage 4. There are different stages, depending on how advanced it is. Cancer in Stage 0 is considered asymptomatic, while cancer in stage 4 has spread to other organs. Stage 4 is considered malignant and has spread to nearby lymph nodes and vessels. While treatment options are limited, surgery can be a curative option. You will likely need a surgical procedure if you suspect gallbladder cancer.
