While some patients will experience a variety of symptoms that may indicate the presence of colorectal cancer, not all of them are due to this disease. For example, you may experience bleeding when bowel movements, which is usually caused by hemorrhoids or an infection. If you are experiencing bleeding and a persistent urge to urinate, you should see your doctor right away to rule out other conditions. In addition, these symptoms are common with irritable bowel syndrome. If you have a history of any of these symptoms, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

While colorectal cancer symptoms are often mistaken for other health conditions, it’s best to see a doctor to be certain. Your provider may perform tests to confirm the diagnosis and make sure that you are not suffering from any other medical condition. You will be asked about your health history, including any risk factors, and undergo a physical exam to determine if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. Your doctor may also perform tests to assess the severity of your condition.

Stage 0 lesions are non-cancerous and have not spread beyond the lining of the rectum. These have reached the lymph nodes but have not spread to other parts of the body. However, if they have spread to other parts of the body, the cancer may have metastasized and spread to the liver or lungs. In such cases, the cancer can return and spread again. This is referred to as a recurrent cancer.

A bloody stool may be a sign of colorectal cancer. Blood in the stool can be bright red or black or tarry. Symptoms that indicate the presence of colorectal cancer include weakness, fatigue, and anemia. Additionally, the person may experience vomiting or nausea. If any of these symptoms are present, a doctor may recommend a test to determine if you are suffering from colorectal cancer.

Most cases of colorectal cancer develop without a known cause. Ten percent of cases arise from inherited syndromes and occur in family clusters. Sessile polyps in the colon are the most common type of colorectal cancer. Fortunately, it can be detected and treated before it leads to more serious health complications. In some cases, the patient may have no cancer at all, but this is very rare.

However, the symptoms of colorectal cancer may not be apparent. Having a screening test performed is the best way to detect problems early. While a colonoscopy is the standard screening method, other screening tests such as fecal DNA or occult blood tests can also be used. The age at which screening should begin depends on several factors, such as a family history of colorectal cancer. If you notice a change in your bowel habits, this could also indicate the presence of colorectal cancer.

While the symptoms of colorectal cancer may be similar to those of other conditions, it is important to discuss any symptoms you are experiencing with your physician to rule out other conditions. If you have any of these symptoms, visit your doctor right away. Remember that early detection is crucial for treatment of the disease and the chances of survival are high if caught early. With proper screening, 90% of colorectal cancer cases can be successfully treated.

Despite the lack of visible symptoms, colon and rectal cancer can still be detected early through screening tests. By undergoing these tests, doctors can detect the cancer before it becomes obvious. Therefore, it is crucial for people who are at risk of developing colorectal cancer to follow the guidelines for screening. And if they notice any of these symptoms, it’s time to see a doctor and seek treatment. For patients who are at risk, the benefits of screening will far outweigh any negative side effects.

Surgery for colon cancer involves the removal of a portion of the colon, as well as neighboring lymph nodes. In some cases, the cancer has spread to other parts of the body and surgery cannot completely eliminate it. Moreover, radiation cannot eliminate cancer; only shrink tumor nodules and relieve the symptoms. The aim of surgery is to prevent it from spreading. The surgeon will then reconnect the bowel and the intestine. A stoma is created for drainage to a colostomy bag. This operation is temporary, but it can lead to severe side effects and may require a second surgery.
