If you have any of the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, you should make an appointment with a physician. Your healthcare provider will review your medical history and perform a physical examination. They may also perform evoked potential testing, which measures the speed of nerve impulses. They may also order other tests to rule out other causes of MS. The diagnosis of MS is often accompanied by a variety of treatments that help manage symptoms, improve function, and provide emotional support.

One of the early signs of MS is muscle weakness and loss of mobility. This can lead to issues with walking, balance, and bowel control. People who suffer from MS may also develop bladder and bowel problems, which can affect their quality of life and ability to work. Additionally, people with MS may experience pain, stiffness, and difficulty thinking. They may even experience changes in their ability to laugh or cry. Fortunately, these symptoms can be managed with medicine and rehabilitation.

The earliest signs of MS occur during the first few years after onset of the disease. The immune system attacks the myelin covering the nerves. This sheath is normally protective and protects them from infection, but in MS, the immune system attacks the myelin, leading to nerve damage. The symptoms of MS are usually first noticed between the ages of 20 and 40. Early diagnosis is rare. People of European descent and women are at greater risk of developing the disease. People of other ethnic groups have a much lower incidence of the disease.

If a person with MS experiences a relapse, he or she should contact his or her healthcare team immediately. The healthcare team, including the neurologist and MS nurse, can provide supportive treatment and help the patient deal with the relapse. The healthcare team may prescribe neurorehabilitation or medications to improve the patient’s condition. In addition, patients may need to take a diary of their symptoms to help them manage the condition. Accurate information is crucial for a successful treatment.

During the course of the disease, the majority of people with MS experience some form of pain. This pain can be mild or severe and can last days, weeks, or even months. It usually affects the face, neck, or back. It may also be triggered by fever, hot baths, stress, or sun exposure. The person may feel fatigued all the time, especially during the late afternoon. It is important to take note that these symptoms do not occur simultaneously and may occur in a different order.

The cause of MS is unknown. Genetics play a role, but environmental factors can increase the likelihood of developing the disease. The onset of MS usually occurs between the ages of twenty and forty. Women have a higher risk of developing relapsing MS than men. Researches have also linked the Epstein-Barr virus to the disease. Although it is not a cause of MS, scientists believe environmental triggers are necessary for the disease to develop.

There are two main types of Multiple Sclerosis. Relapsing-remitting MS is the most common form and affects approximately 85 percent of people. Patients diagnosed with this type of MS are usually in their 20s and 30s. People with primary-progressive MS rarely see improvement in their symptoms over the course of the disease. Instead, their symptoms tend to worsen over a year. There is no cure for this disease and relapses are frequent.

People with MS may experience difficulty walking or standing. The extra weight can change their balance and make it difficult to walk. Some women may need walking aids or wheelchairs to help them navigate the world. They may also develop urinary tract infections and experience fatigue. Pregnancy does not cause infertility, and if you have symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, make an appointment with a healthcare provider to get a proper diagnosis.

The risk of MS is high in people with first-degree relatives with MS. However, having one in five first-degree relatives with MS increases the risk. Also, people with MS are at a higher risk for brain atrophy than the general population. People with untreated MS show a faster rate of brain atrophy. The goal of current treatments for MS is to prevent new lesions from forming in the central nervous system. Research is focused on ways to repair damaged myelin and prevent the onset of symptoms.
