Transient ischemic attack and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) are similar medical conditions with the same symptoms, risk factors, and treatments. While either one is dangerous, it is critical to seek emergency medical care. The faster you can get treatment, the better your chances are of survival. A CVA stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain suddenly stops. The lack of oxygen leads to cell death. Symptoms of a CVA stroke include temporary or total loss of vision.

The most important thing to do if you suspect you have a CVA stroke is to get immediate medical attention. Depending on the area of the brain affected by the CVA, you may experience severe headaches, confusion, or drooping eyelids. You may even experience slurred speech or other speech problems. A stroke can also affect the part of the body where blood flow is interrupted. In addition, there are symptoms that can lead to paralysis or speech problems.

Common stroke symptoms include trouble speaking and thinking. You may be confused, unable to understand speech, or have trouble understanding concepts. Other signs include sudden numbness or weakness on one side of your body. One side of your mouth may droop when you smile. Vision may become blurred, or even black and double. You may even experience pain or tingling sensations in one or both eyes. If any of these signs and symptoms are present, you should contact a physician immediately.

The first step in resolving a stroke is to recognize the symptoms. Get to a hospital immediately. Once there, your health care professional will run a CT scan and consult with a neurologist. They will stabilize your breathing and blood pressure, and administer tPA if necessary. Depending on your specific situation, a stroke patient may need a variety of therapies, including physical therapy and speech. Treatment is focused on treating the cause of the stroke and preventing another one.

If your loved one is experiencing any of the above symptoms, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Stroke is a serious medical emergency, and if diagnosed early, you may receive a life-saving medication or clot-busting medication. However, if a stroke is not caught in time, there is no hope for a recovery. Your doctor will likely prescribe an anti-clot medication to reduce the chance of a recurrent stroke.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is another warning sign of a stroke. While the symptoms of a transient ischemic attack will subside, a stroke will most likely not. Transient ischemic attack symptoms are often mild, and could indicate a potentially reversible or treatable cause. Despite its early warning sign, TIA is still a serious stroke warning. One in three people will suffer from a stroke later in life. In addition to paralysis, many suffer from memory loss and poor judgment.

A subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs outside of brain tissue. The bleeding occurs between the two outer layers of the brain, known as the arachnoid, and the pia mater. In severe cases, this type of stroke can result in widespread brain damage and neurological impairment. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, seek emergency medical treatment to prevent life-threatening complications and permanent damage. If left untreated, it can even lead to more serious conditions, including dementia.

Among the most common CVA stroke symptoms, hemorrhagic stroke is the most serious type. The rupture of an artery in the brain results in the loss of oxygen and blood, which severely damages brain tissue. These symptoms can vary from person to person, and they may become more severe over time. Patients suffering from ischemic stroke should be evaluated immediately by a medical professional. They should also be aware of the symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke so that they can take immediate action.

Men and women alike are at risk for stroke. The risk is higher for men, but women account for more than half of all strokes. Pregnant women are at risk for stroke. Further, many women delay seeking medical care, which contributes to a higher mortality rate. Furthermore, people of African and Hispanic descent have a much higher risk of stroke than Caucasians. These populations often suffer from hypertension and other health conditions that increase their risk.
