Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement, speech, and balance. The disease affects a small area of the brain called the substantia nigra. In this area, nerve cells begin to die for an unknown reason. This decreases the amount of dopamine available to control movement. This leads to shaking and trembling in the hands, arms, and legs. The shaking usually becomes less severe when the affected limbs are used. In some cases, a patient may experience delusions and hallucinations as well.

For some people with Parkinson, medication can help alleviate the tremors. However, this is not a cure. Medications can only control the symptoms for a limited period of time and may require changing as the disease progresses. However, a recently approved procedure called deep brain stimulation (DBS) can reduce symptoms and reduce the need for certain medicines.

Parkinson’s disease is an incurable disorder of the brain that affects the ability to control movement. When dopamine is missing in certain parts of the brain, nerve cells send distorted messages to each other, resulting in slow movements, stiffness, and shaking. While there is no known cure for the disease, proper treatment can reduce the severity of symptoms and lead to a more active lifestyle. If you or a loved one is experiencing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, it is important to see your doctor immediately.

As with any chronic condition, living with Parkinson’s disease is hard and often leads to feelings of anger and depression. In many cases, patients are unable to perform daily tasks because of the disease. In addition to treating their symptoms, a patient can take antidepressants to reduce the symptoms of depression.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that causes a lack of dopamine in the brain. This chemical messenger helps the brain to move smoothly and in a coordinated manner. When the dopamine-producing cells in the brain die, symptoms of Parkinson’s disease appear. While there is no cure for the disease, with proper medication, patients can live a full and independent life. And in many cases, treatment can even reverse the progression of the disease.
