Parkinson’s disease usually affects one side of the body at first, but the condition can progress to affect both sides. Early symptoms are subtle and unnoticeable, but with the proper treatment, the condition can be controlled. The patient may also experience stiffness and difficulty in initiating and maintaining movement. Although Parkinson’s disease can make it difficult to walk, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the person will become bedridden.

Cognitive changes are another common symptom. Symptoms may also affect sleep, sense of smell, and restless legs. These changes may make it more difficult to carry out everyday activities, such as shopping, driving, and completing tasks. Some medications may also contribute to these symptoms. It is important to speak to your doctor as soon as you notice any of these changes.

Walking difficulty is one of the first symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Initially, people may experience small, stumbling steps, as well as an increased tendency to propel forward with short, shallow steps. Eventually, tremors may progress to the rest of the body and include episodes of freezing in the middle of a stride. Further, individuals may lose the ability to look downward. Parkinson’s disease often begins on one side of the body and progresses to the other.

Parkinson’s disease is characterized by a tremor, a twitch or shaking that occurs even when the body is at rest. These tremors are also referred to as rest tremors because they will stop when the person uses the affected body part. Tremors usually begin in the hand, foot, or leg, and may spread to other areas of the body as the disease progresses.

Early-stage Parkinson’s disease is usually mild and not noticeable to others. Early symptoms are not severe and may not require medication. However, if the disease progresses into stage two, muscle stiffness can become a major problem and interfere with daily activities. People who are in the early stages may still be able to walk unassisted.

Parkinson’s disease affects the nerve cells in the brain, which is responsible for smooth and controlled movements. It is caused by the death of dopamine-producing cells in the substantia nigra. The decline of dopamine leads to the loss of communication between areas of the brain. As the dopamine level in the brain decreases, Parkinson’s disease symptoms become more severe. Additionally, non-movement-related symptoms may be caused by degeneration of other brain cells.

The most common motor symptoms of Parkinson disease are tremor and rigidity. These symptoms are often asymmetrical. In the early stages of the disease, stiffness affects the shoulder and neck muscles. In later stages, rigidity may spread to both sides of the body. This disease may also result in difficulty walking, swallowing, or turning over in bed.

The disease is difficult to diagnose in its early stages. However, doctors will likely perform a physical and neurological exam, which includes testing for reflexes, muscle strength, and coordination. Brain imaging tests and blood tests may also be necessary. An early diagnosis can help physicians rule out other diseases that may be causing your symptoms.

In addition to medications, deep brain stimulation is an alternative therapy for people with Parkinson’s. This procedure involves implanting electrodes in the brain. These electrodes are connected to an electrical device implanted in the chest. The device stimulates specific areas of the brain that control movement. If this surgery is successful, the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease may be significantly reduced.

Tremor is one of the most common symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Most people with the disease will experience tremor on one side of their body. This side will typically be affected more severely throughout the disease. Bradykinesia, or generalized slow movement, also occurs in nearly everyone with the disease. Both of these symptoms can cause feelings of weakness, incoordination, and tiredness. It’s important to visit your doctor as soon as possible to determine if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms.
