Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that causes slow, rhythmic shaking of the muscles. It is also associated with changes in blood pressure, changes in the skin, and memory and thinking problems. Symptoms vary from person to person and can be subtle at the beginning, or gradually worsen over a number of years. Parkinson’s disease is usually diagnosed after the person starts having a combination of motor and nonmotor symptoms. Early symptoms may include difficulty walking or standing, stopping mid-stride, or dragging the feet. They can also include problems getting out of bed or urinating.

Often, the first symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are very subtle and develop slowly. They include a stooped posture, difficulty in balance, and loss of automatic movements. A person suffering from this disease may also speak with a monotone voice and may have trouble with handwriting. In more advanced cases, speech may become fast and slurred, or may even stop during a sentence.

Lightheadedness is a common symptom of Parkinson’s disease, related to the inability of the body to regulate blood pressure properly. This can lead to blackouts or fainting episodes. Another common symptom is fatigue, which can also be accompanied by depression and sleep disorders. Many people suffering from Parkinson’s also experience disturbances in their digestive system. Their gastrointestinal systems may become sluggish, resulting in constipation.

Another symptom that affects movements is tremor. Most people with the disease will experience tremor on one side of the body. The tremor tends to be worse on the affected side of the body. Other symptoms include general slowness of movement (bradykinesia). This can result in feelings of incoordination, weakness, and fatigue. When these symptoms occur, it may be time to seek medical attention.

Early Parkinson’s symptoms are not life-threatening. They may not be noticed by others and may be controlled with medication. However, in later stages, the symptoms may become more noticeable and may interfere with daily tasks. At this stage, muscle stiffness may make walking, talking, and standing difficult. Some people with this disease may even become bedridden.

Another common symptom of Parkinson’s disease is falling out of bed. A person with this condition may also punch and kick in their sleep or act out their dreams. They may also wake up with twisted sheets. Other symptoms of this disease include hyposmia, or slow movement. People with Parkinson’s disease may have difficulty communicating or interacting with others.

If these symptoms are present, it’s important to seek medical attention. Some patients experience depression. While it’s difficult to distinguish between depression and Parkinson’s, a health care provider can prescribe a medication to help patients manage their symptoms. If you suffer from depression, talk to your health care provider immediately.

People with Parkinson’s disease may experience problems chewing and swallowing. This could lead to choking or poor nutrition. In some cases, symptoms can affect sleep, causing difficulty identifying certain odors. In addition, patients with this disease may experience increased urination or increased urgency. They may also have difficulty getting to the restroom.

Another symptom of Parkinson’s disease is tremors. Tremors are persistent shaking and twitching of the hands and limbs. These tremors are called “rest tremors” and disappear when the affected body part is used. They start out very subtle and gradually get more severe as the disease progresses. When first noticed, they usually appear only on one side of the body. However, they may spread to other parts of the body. In addition, a person may notice subtle changes in walking patterns.

When a person with Parkinson’s disease is walking, it’s important to look in front of them, make U-turns, distribute their weight evenly among both feet, and avoid carrying items while walking. Because these symptoms may worsen, many people suffering from this condition must be aware of how to adjust their daily routines. An occupational therapist can help a person with Parkinson’s disease manage their daily routines. A speech therapist can also help patients with speech issues.
