Its incidence is estimated to be 15 times higher in the southern region of Brazil, where it is more common. These cancers are associated with several hereditary syndomes, which means that it can be inherited or be acquired. Adrenocortical cancers are rare. They can be caused by an underlying adenoma or by a de novo occurrence. Li-Fraumeni syndrome is also associated with adrenocortical carcinoma, and approximately half of the pediatric ACC patients have it.

For men, no symptoms are present unless they are experiencing vaginal bleeding. For most patients, a diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma requires a biopsy. Some of the most common symptoms of adrenocortical cancer include abdominal pain, fullness in the abdomen, and anorexia. A biopsy is necessary to confirm the diagnosis. The tumors may also be found if they are large and can affect the organ. If the tumor is large, it may be difficult to remove. The patient may be suffering from multiple tumors.
