There are several Stages of Colorectal Cancer. Stage 0 is a precancerous lesion that is still located within the lining of the colon or rectum. Stage 2 is a cancer that has spread to nearby lymph nodes and distant organs. Stage 4 is when the cancer has spread outside of the colon to other parts of the body. Symptoms of this cancer vary widely from person to person, but they all include a lump in the colon.

The signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer depend on where the cancer is located, and the size of the tumor. However, symptoms may include bloating, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits. These symptoms may not be indicative of colorectal cancer, and they may be caused by another medical condition. If you have experienced these symptoms for several weeks, talk with your doctor. Ask them to order a colonoscopy to determine whether you have cancer.

Symptoms of colorectal cancer can be confusing, since the disease can present itself as any number of other health problems. The best way to detect colorectal cancer is to visit your healthcare provider. Your provider will ask you about your past health, including symptoms, risk factors, and family history of the disease. They will also perform a physical exam to determine if there is an underlying disease. You should always see a doctor if any of the symptoms are persistent and/or if they are related to another health condition.

If you have been experiencing symptoms for longer than two weeks, your doctor may want to perform a biopsy. A biopsy is a laboratory test to detect cancer cells. A polyp or other suspicious area can be removed through a surgical procedure, and the tissue is sent to a lab for examination. The sample will be examined under a microscope and tested for changes in genes. Other lab tests may be performed to classify the cancer.

Some types of colorectal cancer are rare. In fact, only 7% of colorectal cancer cases have a known cause. Ten percent of cases result from inherited syndromes. Another 20 percent of cases are family clusters. Inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer can develop in the colon, but can be treated successfully if detected early. If it has metastasized, it can travel through the lymph system and spread to other parts of the body.

After the cancer is detected, treatment will depend on the type of cancer. Treatment can include a combination of medications and surgery, or can be combined with other treatments. In some cases, chemotherapy is an option. This treatment method works to destroy the cancer cells and reattach the bowel. Depending on the stage of the cancer, the side effects of chemotherapy can affect the patient’s overall health. When considering a colorectal cancer treatment, the patient should first discuss their goals and medical condition.

Getting regular screenings for colon cancer can significantly reduce the risk of this disease. Screenings are highly recommended for people over forty-five. Exercise and a diet high in fruits and vegetables, wheat bran and wheat germ, and avoiding processed meat and excess calories will all reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. The symptoms of colon cancer may vary from one person to another, but the sooner the disease is detected the better.

While colon cancer usually starts in the rectum or colon, other types of colorectal cancer can occur in the digestive tract. Despite the fact that colon cancer is uncommon, it is best to have a regular screening as it can help diagnose it early. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 104,270 new cases of colon cancer in 2021. Additionally, healthcare professionals recommend colorectal cancer screenings for adults between the ages of forty-five and seventy-five.

Depending on the stage of the cancer, there are many treatments available. Generally, patients can expect to live for five years or longer when it is caught in its early stages. Getting screenings every two years is the most important way to improve your odds of survival. For patients who are over 50, fecal testing is recommended every two years. You can also consult your doctor for a personal recommendation. Once you’ve been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, your doctor can recommend a plan of action.

Screenings are another way to prevent this condition. Routine colon screenings are recommended for most people starting at age 50, but younger people can benefit from it as well. However, there are several risks associated with colon cancer, so talking with your doctor will help you determine if you need regular screenings. If the symptoms persist for more than a few weeks, make an appointment with a doctor. The sooner you get screened, the sooner you can find the right treatment.
