The first thing that you should know about gallbladder cancer is that it usually doesn’t cause any symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage. However, if you notice any symptoms before this, you have a better chance of detecting the disease early and receiving proper treatment. However, there are other conditions that can cause the same symptoms as gallbladder cancer, such as jaundice. Jaundice is caused by a gallbladder tumor that blocks the bile duct.

A doctor can determine whether the tumor is in the gallbladder by using imaging tests. A CT scan, for instance, uses X-rays to make detailed pictures of the internal organs. Other tests, such as an abdominal ultrasound or CT (or CAT) scan, are used to look for cancer. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) scans are also used to take pictures of the bile ducts, which can be narrowed in gallbladder cancer. Another test is a biopsy. A sample of the tissue and cells is then removed and sent for testing.

If the cancer is found early, you can choose resection or radiation. Surgery is an option for resectable cancers that haven’t spread beyond the gallbladder. An unresectable cancer is too advanced for surgery and may have spread to major blood vessels, both sides of the liver, or the abdominal cavity. Treatment options for this type of cancer will depend on your stage and overall health.

Depending on the stage of the disease, your doctor will likely do a biopsy to see if it’s cancerous. The biopsy may be performed during surgery to remove the gallbladder, or it can be performed through a procedure called cholangiography. After the biopsy, a pathologist will examine the sample to determine if the tumor is malignant. Based on the results of the biopsy, your doctor will discuss the next steps and decide on the best treatment for you. Surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy are the main treatments for gall bladder cancer. The latter two are given alone or in combination.

Yellowing of the skin and the whites of your eyes are some of the signs of gallbladder cancer. If a tumor blocks the bile ducts, bilirubin may build up in the blood and settle in different parts of the body. If the tumor stretches beyond the gallbladder, it may cause the gallbladder to swell. If left untreated, gallbladder cancer can spread to nearby organs, such as the liver. Additionally, you may notice a lump.

If the symptoms are not immediately obvious, you should consult a physician as soon as possible. Symptoms of gallbladder cancer may be difficult to detect in the early stage, and you should be aware of these before you seek treatment. There are several early warning signs you should know about to detect the disease. If you find these signs early on, you may have gallbladder cancer. If the cancer is found in the early stages, surgery is the best option for treatment.

Once the symptoms of gallbladder cancer are recognized, the treatment plan will depend on the stage of the disease. The cancer can be in the initial stage, or it can progress to the later stages. If the cancer has spread to nearby organs, it may move to lymph nodes or other structures. In some cases, surgery is the only option, but it’s best to consult a physician as soon as possible to find out if the cancer has spread.

A doctor will examine you for signs and symptoms of gallbladder cancer and perform a physical exam to rule out other conditions. Blood tests may also be ordered to determine whether you’re suffering from any liver disease or gallbladder disease. Imaging tests are also useful in identifying gallbladder cancer. For example, the doctor may recommend an endoscopy to visualize the gallbladder and take a biopsy of the tumor. Other sophisticated GI tests may be done, including endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

The symptoms of gallbladder cancer are often not recognizable until it is advanced. While the disease is rare, it should be checked immediately to ensure that it is not something serious. Jaundice, abdominal pain, and fatigue are also common signs of gallbladder cancer. However, some other conditions may increase your risk of gallbladder cancer. Some of these conditions include having gallbladder disease, porcelain gallbladder, and bile duct abnormalities.

If symptoms of gallbladder cancer are accompanied by other signs of cancer, you may undergo surgery to remove the gallbladder and the affected lymph nodes. Depending on the type of cancer, surgery can cure the disease, but it might leave some of the tumor. Depending on the stage of the disease, treatment may vary from surgery to palliative care. In advanced cases, chemotherapy may not be enough to prevent the disease from progressing and causing symptoms to continue.
