When you notice certain symptoms of gallbladder cancer, you should get checked by a doctor. Early diagnosis improves your chances of a better outcome. Unfortunately, symptoms usually appear only when the cancer is at an advanced stage. The good news is that you can learn the signs and symptoms of gallbladder cancer and make sure you don’t have it. In this article, we’ll review some of the most common symptoms and what you should do if you suspect you have gallbladder cancer.

The cause of gallbladder cancer is unknown. It is believed that it develops when healthy gallbladder cells begin to develop changes in the DNA that instruct the cells to grow out of control. The accumulated cells eventually form a tumor that can spread to other parts of the body. The symptoms of gallbladder cancer can be characterized by any one of them, but they may be indicative of another problem.

Abdominal pain may be a symptom of other diseases, and it is therefore crucial to see a doctor if you experience it. However, the pain may be indicative of another health problem, such as gallstones or an infection. Because gallbladder cancer is so hard to detect, the symptoms can be vague. In some cases, patients may experience jaundice, which is difficult to distinguish from cholecystitis. Other symptoms may include clay-colored stools and cola-colored urine. In advanced stages, patients may experience a tendency to lose weight.

Stages are determined by a biopsy of the gallbladder tumor. The TNM staging system divides the disease into stages based on how far the tumor has spread to other parts of the body. If a tumor has spread beyond the gallbladder, it is referred to as stage IIIA. In this stage, the cancer has spread to other parts of the body and is not detected in the lymph nodes.

If your symptoms persist, your doctor may recommend an MRI scan. This test uses X-rays to produce detailed cross-sectional images of internal organs. In some cases, a dye may be injected into a vein or swallowed to make organs visible. The scan takes between 30 and 90 minutes. An abdominal ultrasound is another diagnostic test used to evaluate gallbladder cancer. The images produced will allow the doctor to plan a surgical procedure for gallbladder removal.

Because gallbladder cancer is a rare disease, symptoms may go unnoticed until it has spread to other parts of the body. Most people diagnosed with gallbladder cancer in its advanced stages do not have symptoms, but a thorough physical examination can help detect the disease. Fortunately, gallbladder cancer can be detected and treated at an early stage. If you think you have these symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.

Although there is no specific cause of gallbladder cancer, certain risk factors are linked to increased development of the disease. In particular, chronic inflammation in the gallbladder increases the risk of gallbladder cancer. Approximately 75 to 90 percent of gallbladder cancer patients have gallstones, a condition called cholecystitis. But gallstones themselves do not cause gallbladder cancer.

Treatment for gallbladder cancer can include surgery and medication. Surgery is an option if the disease is resectable, and can be removed with minimal impact on healthy organs. Depending on the severity of the disease, chemotherapy and radiation treatments may be recommended. It may be accompanied by pain and nausea. Some treatments can also cause damage to the liver. While surgical treatment is the only option for gallbladder cancer, the patient may be able to experience some discomfort during the process.

Patients with symptoms of gallbladder cancer should visit a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis. An abdominal ultrasound is the first test to rule out gallbladder disease, but endoscopic ultrasound provides better views than traditional ultrasound. An endoscopic ultrasound requires a thin lighted tube that passes through the mouth or small incision in the belly. Another test called cholangiography examines the liver and bile ducts and looks for narrowing. Another test called an angiography examines blood vessels and abnormalities.

A biopsy of the gallbladder tissue may also be necessary to determine the extent of the disease. A biopsy may be done to examine the tissues or cells to detect any signs of cancer. It can be done during laparoscopy or cholangiography. A pathologist examines the sample to determine the type and stage of the disease. Following the diagnosis, the doctor may discuss treatment options and the chances of recovery. Surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy are the main options for treating gallbladder cancer.
