Gallbladder cancer has a number of symptoms. It can spread to distant organs. This is known as the TNM (Tomographic Nuclear Mapping) staging system. The American Cancer Society has four stages of gallbladder cancer: in situ, stage I, stage II, and stage III. Stage 0 cancer refers to a cancer that has not spread or if it is small and in the lining of the gallbladder. Stage II cancer involves the gallbladder’s outer layer or the peritoneum, or connective tissue around the liver. Stage IIIA cancer has spread outside the gallbladder but has not yet spread to nearby lymph nodes or arteries.

Most gallbladder cancer patients experience some type of abdominal pain. Pain typically occurs in the upper right abdomen and may include jaundice, which is caused by too much bilirubin in the blood. This can cause jaundice, a yellowish discoloration of the skin and the whites of the eyes. Patients also commonly experience nausea. Further, gallbladder cancer can result in severe gastrointestinal bleeding.

Although the incidence of gallbladder cancer in the U.S. is low, there are certain population groups that are at greater risk. Women are twice as likely to develop gallbladder cancer as men. Those who are ethnic minorities or Latinos are more likely to be affected by this disease. African-Americans have the lowest risk of gallbladder cancer. Chronic typhoid can also cause irritation to the gallbladder.

If you have any of these symptoms, your doctor may order a CT scan or an MRI. These scans use X-rays to create detailed pictures of internal organs. Your doctor may also use a dye injected into a vein or swallowed to make the organs easier to see. Your doctor may also perform diagnostic laparoscopy to view the inside of your body. This examination will reveal if the gallbladder has spread or not.

The five-year survival rate of gallbladder cancer is very poor. Unfortunately, it is rare. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for a good prognosis. While it is not possible to completely avoid gallbladder cancer, you can take steps to improve your odds of survival. Eat a nutritious diet high in fruits and vegetables and limit red meat and processed foods. You can also exercise moderately to help strengthen your immune system.

Typically, the gallbladder cancer patient presents with no symptoms at all at the time of diagnosis. Some patients have no symptoms at all and will describe vague symptoms. Jaundice, for example, can be mistaken for cholecystitis. Clay-colored stools and urine, skin pruritus, and weight loss may also be present. A patient’s pain may worsen if the disease has advanced.

Inflammation in the gallbladder may increase the risk of developing gallbladder cancer. Chronic inflammation is associated with a greater risk of gallbladder cancer than obesity, but does not cause gallbladder disease. Most cases of gallbladder cancer are caused by chronic inflammation of the gallbladder, which is the most common risk factor for developing this condition. The inflammation associated with chronic cholecystitis is the main factor for a patient to develop gallbladder cancer.

Liver function tests are also necessary to diagnose the disease. These tests will measure levels of substances in the liver, such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CA) 19-9. These substances are released by cancer cells and normal cells. A high level of CA 19-9 is an indicator of gallbladder cancer. If these levels are detected, the patient will need to undergo surgery. If the cancer spreads to nearby organs, it is known as metastasis.

Abdominal pain is another common gallbladder cancer symptom. Although the symptoms are not always obvious, they may indicate gallbladder cancer. Abdominal pain is usually accompanied by abdominal pain, a yellowish-white appearance of the eyes, or both. When these symptoms occur in combination, it’s time to visit a physician. Your doctor may perform a biopsy to diagnose gallbladder cancer.

Once diagnosed, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the most common treatments for gallbladder cancer. The drugs are either injected or taken orally. Some of the drugs used for chemotherapy are Gemcitabine, cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil, capecitabine, and oxaliplatin. The side effects of chemotherapy include easy bruising, mouth sores, diarrhea, and nausea.
