There are several Gallbladder Cancer Symptoms that you should be aware of. These include abdominal pain, vomiting, and yellowing of the eyes or whites. A gallbladder blockage is a symptom of gallbladder cancer that is very uncomfortable and often persists. The pain and vomiting are often accompanied by other symptoms such as stomach flu. In addition, your doctor may recommend a test to confirm the presence of gallbladder cancer.

About 50% of people with gallbladder cancer experience abdominal pain, typically in the upper right part of the abdomen. A general loss of appetite often occurs, as well. Other symptoms of gallbladder cancer include jaundice, a yellow coloration of the skin or the whites of the eyes caused by excess bilirubin in the blood. You may also notice light-colored stools, or gray. A physical examination or an ultrasound may reveal the presence of these symptoms.

A CT scan or an abdominal ultrasound is a test used to diagnose gallbladder cancer. The scans use high-energy sound waves to produce detailed pictures of the internal organs. Another test, known as an ultrasound, involves inserting a thin tube with a camera into the abdomen. This helps your doctor see inside your gallbladder and its ducts. Depending on the type of cancer you have, a biopsy may be performed to examine the organ.

If you’ve had any of the symptoms of gallbladder cancer, you should visit a doctor right away. In addition to the gallbladder, other organs may be affected. In some cases, the cancer has spread beyond the gallbladder. It might spread to nearby lymph nodes and distant organs, such as the liver. Your doctor will need to perform a biopsy to confirm whether or not the cancer has spread.

When you are diagnosed with gallbladder cancer, a gastroenterologist will evaluate the patient’s symptoms. During this examination, your doctor will take a history and physical exam. They may order blood tests to check your liver function because gallbladder cancer can cause severe liver damage. Your doctor may also order imaging tests. An endoscopy is an advanced medical test used to view the gallbladder and obtain a biopsy. Other advanced GI tests that can help determine if you have gallbladder cancer include an endoscopic ultrasound, a CT scan of the abdominal wall, and an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography.

While most patients with gallbladder cancer are asymptomatic at diagnosis, their symptoms may indicate that the cancer has spread to nearby organs. A majority of gallbladder cancers were diagnosed after the cancer had spread to nearby organs. Despite its relatively low rate of mortality, gallbladder cancer is often fatal when it’s detected at an advanced stage. The symptoms of gallbladder cancer may include jaundice, which is sometimes mistaken for cholecystitis. Additionally, patients may experience skin pruritus, clay-colored stools, and cola-colored urine. A patient may also experience weight loss.

Treatments include surgery or a combination of surgeries. A biopsy is a surgical procedure in which a sample of the diseased tissue is taken. A thin needle is inserted through the skin, guiding it with CT or ultrasonography. Patients may also undergo surgery, including diagnostic laparotomy or an open laparoscopy. In addition, bile duct stents may be implanted to allow bile to flow normally around a blockage.

Because of the low prevalence of gallbladder cancer, it is vital to see a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Most cases of gallbladder cancer can be treated with surgery, but advanced stages may not show early signs. Some treatments are palliative, meaning they are intended to improve your quality of life while you undergo treatment. When surgery isn’t an option, chemotherapy or radiation is often used to try to eliminate the cancer.

Gallstones are a common cause of pain. They are pebble-like deposits of cholesterol and bile that can obstruct the gallbladder. Although gallstones are a common cause of gallbladder pain, the vast majority of patients never develop the disease. In fact, four out of five people with gallstones never develop gallbladder cancer. In women, this is a fairly uncommon condition.

Fortunately, there are now various treatments for gallbladder cancer. Targeted therapy is available for patients with specific genetic mutations. Immunotherapy is also an option for patients with specific types of the disease. A patient may also wish to enroll in a clinical trial before undergoing chemotherapy. However, after treatment, he or she may need follow-up tests to monitor the progress of the disease. A person with Gallbladder Cancer should not delay treatment because of the lack of symptoms.
