While stomach cancer is more common in men than women, the symptoms are similar between the sexes. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 26,000 people will develop the disease in 2022. Of those, 15,900 will be men and 10,480 will be women. A staggering 11,090 people will die of gastric cancer by that time. Globally, the incidence of stomach cancer is higher than in the general population, especially among those in the age range of 65-69.

Treatment for stomach cancer depends on stage. Stage one is limited to removal of the cancerous part of the stomach. However, it may spread to nearby lymph nodes and organs. The second stage includes tumors in the esophagus and lymph nodes. The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and may even have spread to nearby organs. Stage three is very dangerous, and a person may experience more than one gastric cancer symptom at a time.

There are several types of stomach cancer. Some are more likely than others to develop. Diffuse gastric cancer, for example, grows as a cluster of cells throughout the stomach wall. Some are hereditary. If you have a CDH1 gene mutation, you’re at higher risk of developing diffuse gastric cancer. Non-cardia stomach cancer, on the other hand, is caused by the growth of special cells inside the lining of the stomach. Non-cardia gastric cancer is often associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease. It may also develop due to prolonged inflammation and infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

The treatment for gastric cancer depends on the stage of the disease and the type of tumor present. For small-stage cancers, endoscopic resection may be used. The surgeon will insert an endoscope to the stomach and perform various procedures. Endoscopic submucosal resection and gastric bypass surgery both remove part of the stomach. During subtotal gastrectomy, the surgeon may also remove the lymph nodes nearby the tumor.

The study showed that dysphagia is one of the most common symptoms of gastric cancer, with almost half of participants reporting this symptom. The other half of participants reported heartburn, including some who had it frequently. These are common symptoms of gastric cancer and esophageal cancer. A recent report attributed these symptoms to a combination of factors. Involuntary weight loss may also be a symptom.

The symptoms of gastric cancer may be difficult to recognize in the early stages. However, they can be indicative of other conditions, including ulcers and viral infections. Intestinal metaplasia, in which the stomach’s normal lining is replaced with cells from the intestines, is a potential indicator of this condition. Moreover, these symptoms could be related to other types of cancer, such as an infection.

The symptoms of stomach cancer are often non-specific, and may include hematemesis or melena. Other common signs of gastric cancer are slow chronic blood loss and anaemia. Advanced cases may result in a blockage of the stomach, early satiety, vomiting, or other complications. This is why it is important to seek medical advice for stomach cancer as soon as you notice them. Once you know what is causing the discomfort, you can treat the condition before it causes complications.

People with certain genetic conditions are more likely to develop stomach cancer. A gene mutation associated with hereditary gastric cancer increases the risk of developing this disease. People with strong family histories of the disease are also at increased risk. People with certain hereditary syndromes also have increased chances of developing the disease. In addition, eating too much red meat and dairy products increases the risk of gastric cancer. Even people who do not have a family history of stomach cancer are more likely to develop it themselves.

A biopsy of the tumor can reveal suspicious features that may indicate cancer. If it is HER2-positive, the patient can undergo chemotherapy or an immunotherapy that targets the HER2 protein. Symptoms of gastric cancer may also include helicobacter pylori infection. This can affect treatment options and prognosis. It is important to seek medical care early and take heed of these symptoms. For patients diagnosed with gastric cancer, the outlook is better. However, the survival rate for this type of disease depends on the stage it is in.

In addition to symptoms, a physician may recommend imaging tests. Imaging tests may include computed tomography scans and endoscopic ultrasound. Barium swallow imaging involves viewing the digestive tract as a liquid moves down the esophagus. Upper endoscopy involves inserting a thin camera and a thin tube into the stomach. The doctor can look for abnormal cells in the inner layer of the stomach. If these results are positive, a CT scan is recommended.
