The most common treatment for gastric cancer is surgery, which involves removing a portion of the stomach along with its lymph nodes and adjacent normal tissue. Depending on the location and severity of the cancer, the surgery may also involve the removal of lymph nodes or organs in the abdominal region. If the tumor is located in the lower part of the stomach, surgery may involve removal of the pancreas and some intestines. In some cases, specific drugs may be administered orally or intravenously. These treatments may also include targeted drug therapy or immunotherapy.

While there are several different gastric cancer symptoms, many patients are not aware of all of them. While most cases of gastric cancer present with non-specific symptoms, other common symptoms may be associated with ulcers that cause bleeding. These bleeding symptoms may be accompanied by hematemesis and melena. Chronic bleeding from the stomach may also occur as a result of gastric cancer, leading to anaemia symptoms. Advanced gastric cancer may also cause a stomach obstruction, leading to vomiting and early satiety.

While not every gurgle is indicative of gastric cancer, some symptoms should prompt you to see a doctor. For example, if you experience back pain or abdominal pain after a meal, these are likely signs of gastric cancer. Your doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist, who is an expert in digestive issues. In some cases, you might even need to see a second physician to confirm the diagnosis.

Some people are at risk for stomach cancer because of certain genes. A common variable immune deficiency, which affects proteins in the body, can increase the risk of developing gastric cancer. Family history of stomach cancer is another risk factor. Certain hereditary syndromes are associated with an increased risk of developing stomach cancer. Moreover, the disease has been associated with an increased risk of having gastritis, so individuals with a family history of the condition are at a higher risk.

Surgical treatments for gastric cancer include removal of part or all of the stomach and adjacent lymph nodes. In some cases, bypassing the obstructing tumor may also help the patient’s quality of life. In addition to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be used. However, gastric cancer cannot be completely cured. Nevertheless, doctors are actively searching for newer treatments to treat the disease. They will need to understand the symptoms of the disease and how the patient’s body reacts to these treatments.

Some gastric cancer patients experience alarm symptoms. These symptoms may be indistinguishable from benign dyspepsia in the early stages. Alarm symptoms may indicate an aggressive or stage-advancing disease, and may even be a signal of cancer. In addition to identifying a patient’s symptoms, doctors will also look at his or her TNM staging and TNM stage to see whether there is a relationship between the symptoms and the likelihood of survival.

Although it’s hard to pinpoint specific symptoms that might indicate gastric cancer, a number of national campaigns have been effective in raising awareness of gastric cancer. Among these, the National Be Clear on Cancer Campaign focused on dysphagia and heartburn. Although most participants described their symptoms as heartburn, many identified them as indigestion and reflux. In addition, one-fifth of participants reported that they had heartburn frequently.

Early symptoms of the disease may include mild pain and bloating after meals, persistent heartburn, and unintended weight loss. Some people also experience jaundice or yellow skin. Ascites, meanwhile, is a fluid-filled sac in the abdomen. If you have any of these symptoms, you should see a doctor. You may have gastric cancer. You must be aware of any changes in your symptoms and visit your physician immediately.

Although there is no single cause of stomach cancer, certain lifestyle and environmental factors increase the risk of getting it. Smoking and other types of chronic illness increase the risk of developing stomach cancer. Bacterial infection in the stomach (H. pylori) is a significant risk factor. However, it doesn’t guarantee that you will develop the disease. Infection with Helicobacter pylori does not always mean stomach cancer, but it’s a major risk factor.

In addition to symptoms, a medical examination may reveal swelling or blood in the stomach. Your doctor may also perform an endoscopy (a lighted tube that slides through your mouth to your stomach), allowing the physician to see the inner layer of your esophagus. A CT scan, meanwhile, can be performed to see if the cancer has spread further. If it has spread into the stomach, this test will detect the cancer in its early stages.
