Parkinson’s disease can have a number of symptoms, including difficulty walking and falling. Fortunately, there are several methods of coping with Parkinson’s disease, including medication and exercise. These treatments can help patients improve their range of motion, flexibility, and balance, while improving their overall well-being. Exercise can also help people with Parkinson’s disease stay active and avoid depression. A physical therapist can help patients develop an exercise program that will benefit their specific needs. These exercises may include walking and stretching. Patients should not move too quickly and maintain a proper posture.

Parkinson disease is classified as two stages. Stage 1 is the mildest form of the disease and symptoms may not interfere with daily activities. Initially, patients may exhibit only a few symptoms that are confined to one side of their body. Symptoms may progress over months or years. During this stage, patients will have problems with their balance, posture, and facial expressions.

Essential tremor is a form of involuntary, rhythmic tremor that affects the hands, arms, and head. This disorder is often inherited and is caused by damage to the globus pallidus interna, a group of brain cells in the basal ganglia that control muscle tone. Essential tremor may also affect one’s ability to write small letters, known as micrographia.

Parkinson’s disease is caused by the loss of dopamine in the brain. In order to reduce this loss, the diet should be high in antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the brain from damage and prevent oxidative stress. Foods rich in antioxidants include fruits and vegetables, nuts, and berries. Lime green beans are a good example of an antioxidant-rich food. These vegetables contain levodopa, the same ingredient found in many Parkinson’s medications. Moreover, omega-3 fats can protect the brain from damage and prevent the onset of Parkinson’s. However, saturated fat is known to increase the risk of developing Parkinson’s.

People with the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease will often need several different medications to control their symptoms. For some patients, deep brain stimulation surgery may be an option. This procedure involves implanting electrodes in the brain, which are connected to a tiny electrical generator in the chest. These electrical impulses help to decrease the tremor and wriggling movements. The procedure is usually performed while the patient is still conscious. If successful, the treatment can significantly reduce the need for medications.

The symptoms of Parkinson’s disease result from the deterioration of dopamine levels in the brain. When dopamine levels decrease, messages from the part of the brain that controls movement become difficult to process. As dopamine levels decrease, the symptoms of Parkinson disease will gradually worsen, leading to an increasingly difficult quality of life.

Although the exact cause of Parkinson’s disease is unknown, some factors such as genetics, environmental factors, and head injury may contribute to the disorder. Taking a balanced diet and getting adequate rest are important for Parkinson’s patients. Some patients can also benefit from therapy that improves their communication skills and self-care. A doctor may also prescribe medication to help manage the symptoms. There are several different medications available to manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

The main therapy for Parkinson’s disease is called levodopa. Levodopa helps the brain produce dopamine, a vital neurotransmitter. Levodopa is generally taken with carbidopa to reduce side effects and decrease the amount of levodopa needed for effective treatment. Patients should not stop taking levodopa too abruptly as this can have adverse effects.
