Transient ischemic attacks, or TISAs, are mini-strokes triggered by decreased blood flow in the brain. They are usually warning signs of a future stroke. Transient ischemic attack symptoms range from changes in mental acuity and speech to obvious loss of sensation and coordination. The time to seek medical treatment depends on the severity of the stroke symptoms. However, it is always advisable to seek medical attention if these symptoms persist.

The time frame for intervention after a stroke is extremely short. If a patient is not awake, family members or bystanders may need to confirm the patient’s vital signs. In case of speech deficits, these individuals should seek medical attention immediately. A nurse or therapist can help. Some patients may need speech therapy or physical therapy. If a stroke-related complication is suspected, a stroke nurse can call 911.

Age is a major risk factor for stroke. Those 65 and older are at higher risk than younger people. High blood pressure increases the risk of stroke by as much as 50%. People who are African American or have a history of high blood pressure are at an increased risk. Women are more likely to die of stroke than men. But even if you have never had a stroke, you can reduce your risk of developing one. It’s important to visit a doctor as soon as you notice any symptoms.

A clot in the retina blood vessel causes temporary visual loss. It is similar to a black curtain falling. But the symptoms are different. A clot in the carotid artery can cause problems on the opposite side. The patient may experience double vision, dizziness, loss of balance, one-sided weakness, or even complete paralysis. Further signs of CVA stroke include confusion and lack of speech. A doctor will likely perform a CT scan to rule out other underlying medical conditions.

A cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is an event that causes a blockage or rupture in one or more of the blood vessels in the brain. The symptoms of CVA vary depending on where the blockage occurred and how severe the damage to the brain was. A victim may experience symptoms of confusion or dizziness, or may feel nauseated or lightheaded. Some may not even recognize the underlying cause of the stroke, though.

While these symptoms are not indicative of a stroke, they are nonetheless warning signs that should not be ignored. The most important thing is to seek immediate medical attention if you experience one of these conditions. Even if the stroke symptoms disappear on their own, it is important to see a doctor immediately. It may save your life. The sooner you act, the better. There are two primary types of stroke: CVA and TISA. In either case, you should see a medical professional.

In both cases, the brain is affected by a blocked artery. The blocked artery supplies part of the brain with blood and oxygen. The brain cells are starved of both. Without these vital nutrients, the cells in the affected area will die. In addition, cholesterol plaque forms in small blood vessels in the brain, which triggers the clotting process. This happens quickly and without warning. So, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.

Depending on the severity of the condition, the affected person may experience any or all of the following symptoms: a headache, confusion, or memory loss. An onset of severe stroke symptoms will be sudden and unpredictable. If left untreated, it can result in long-term disability or even death. To improve the chances of a recovery, medical treatment should be sought as soon as possible. It is important to note that 80% of all strokes are ischemic.
