There are two main types of leukemia: acute and chronic. Both types affect the blood and bone marrow. The body produces two types of white blood cells: lymphocytes and myelocytes. When they become infected, they multiply uncontrollably and destroy healthy blood cells in the process. Normal white blood cells die after a period of time and new ones are produced in the bone marrow. But in leukemia, the cells do not die when they should, but instead continue to reproduce and occupy more space in the blood.

People with leukemia may experience fatigue, fever, and night sweats. They may also bleed easily or bruise easily due to the lack of platelets. Some people with leukemia may also have frequent infections because their body is no longer producing normal white blood cells. A physical examination may reveal other problems as well. Some people are at a higher risk for developing certain types of leukemia if they have had chemotherapy or exposure to radiation.

People with leukemia may experience bone and joint pain, usually in areas with large bone marrow. As the abnormal white blood cells crowd the marrow, these areas may become enlarged. Children may also limp and cannot walk normally. Headaches may also be a symptom of leukemia. These pains may be severe or dull. People with leukemia may have a fever that is more than 101 degrees.

While there are many symptoms associated with leukemia, they are often difficult to identify in young children. Many of the signs and symptoms are vague and nonspecific and people tend to dismiss them as normal. They are more easily recognized in their context. However, they may include bone and joint pain, fever, aching, and pale skin. Leukemia symptoms should not be dismissed. If a child has any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor.

A doctor may perform a bone marrow biopsy to determine the presence of leukemia. This procedure involves inserting a needle into the hip bone and taking a small sample of bone marrow. Leukemia is usually caused by genetic or environmental factors, and exposure to radiation or toxins can increase the risk of the disease. Other health conditions may also cause leukemia. Your healthcare provider will determine which type of leukemia is present and begin treatment accordingly.

Treatment options for leukemia include surgery, chemotherapy, and a combination of treatments. Using strong medicine that targets leukemia cells, such as cymbaltasmogenic leukemia, your doctor may give you a combination of these treatments to combat the disease and relieve the pain caused by the expanding bone marrow. If you are suffering from leukemia symptoms, your doctor may recommend chemotherapy or radiation therapy to treat the disease.

Acute leukemia affects the red blood cells in the body. This means your blood is not able to transport oxygen to all parts of your body. You may experience shortness of breath, fatigue, and weakness. A low platelet count may cause bleeding, bruising, or infections. The most common types of leukemia in children are acute myeloid and acute lymphocytic leukemia. A person suffering from these types of leukemia should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

While the survival rate for childhood leukemia has improved in recent years, there is no certainty. Every patient’s case is different, so treatment depends on the type and characteristics of the leukemia cells. A doctor can give you an assessment and determine what treatment options will work best for your child. You will need to monitor your child’s progress, follow-up visits, and chemotherapy. If the disease has spread to other parts of the body, the treatment may differ.

Some risk factors for developing leukemia are unknown, but they can be minimized by avoiding certain chemicals and avoiding unnecessary x-rays. In addition, genetic features can be a risk factor. Talk to your doctor if you suspect you have leukemia. You should also share your medical history with them. Oftentimes, people with leukemia do not have known risk factors. A family history of the disease may increase your risk for developing leukemia.

Although acute lymphocytic leukemia is more common in children than chronic lymphocytic leukemia, it is possible for people older than 55 to develop the disease. Children and adolescents are at higher risk for acute lymphocytic leukemia, while chronic myelogenous leukemia is more common in adults. It may also take years before symptoms of acute lymphocytic leukemia appear.
