If you think you might have liver cancer, you should talk to your doctor about the symptoms you’re experiencing. Liver cancer symptoms are difficult to identify unless you’re diagnosed in its early stages. Generally, they are only discovered when you’re getting tested for other conditions of the liver, such as chronic hepatitis. You may also notice other symptoms, such as fatigue and poor appetite, which could be symptoms of another condition.

The cancer growth is measured in stages, so stage one means that the tumor has not spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body. The stages of liver cancer are based on the Barcelona Clinic staging system, which divides the disease into four main stages: stage one (stage 1), stage two (stage 2), stage three (stage 3), and stage four (stage IV)—all of which involve cancer that has spread to large blood vessels and bones.

There are several risk factors for liver cancer, including heavy alcohol use. Heavy alcohol consumption is linked with increased risk of liver cancer, as are a number of other illnesses. Liver cancer can also be caused by aflatoxin-tainted foods. Aflatoxin is produced by a fungus and grows in poorly-stored grains and nuts. It’s more common in humid, hot environments. However, there are other risk factors that you can address to reduce your risks.

Several early symptoms of liver cancer include fever, general weakness, and pain in the right upper quadrant. You should also be aware of any changes in your mood, a change in appetite, or a swelling of the liver. Your doctor may recommend regular screenings to detect the disease early. Fortunately, liver cancer is curable if detected in its early stages. This means that the treatment options are many. It may not even require surgery.

However, liver cancer symptoms can be hard to identify in the early stages. Some people may not experience any symptoms at all. Those symptoms may occur as the tumour grows and changes the organ’s functions. Some people may have the same symptoms due to scarring in the liver. If your liver cancer does not cause these symptoms, the diagnosis may be delayed, making it difficult to treat. When these symptoms do appear, it’s time to seek medical attention.

Anemia is a common complication of liver cancer. As a result, the blood lacks clotting factors. This may cause bleeding. You may experience fatigue, rapid heartbeat, pale skin, or lightheadedness. When you have a fever that does not seem to go away, it is a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider. The treatment for liver cancer varies based on the size of the tumor and its location.

Your doctor will conduct a biopsy to determine if you have liver cancer. This involves removing a small sample of the liver tissue for a pathologist to examine. A laparoscopy is also an option. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and allows your doctor to see several different parts of your abdomen. After the biopsy, your doctor may decide on the treatment you need. In some cases, your doctor may suggest another procedure to determine the cancer’s stage.

Your doctor may suggest surgery for liver cancer, or a combination of procedures. A liver transplant may be an option if you have extensive scarring of the liver. However, you may have to wait a long time for a liver transplant, so your doctor may recommend other treatments to control your symptoms until the cancer has been completely removed. Some people are candidates for chemoembolisation, which involves injecting chemotherapy directly into the area of your liver with cancer. The chemotherapy is then removed along with some healthy tissue.

The early symptoms of liver cancer can be hard to identify, so it’s best to see your doctor immediately. However, the later stages of liver cancer may not have any obvious symptoms. Liver cancer may manifest as hard lumps, pain, or swelling. Some symptoms may occur under the rib cage or at the base of your right shoulder blade. These symptoms are often confused with symptoms of a common disease, such as a cold or an infection.

People from sub-Saharan Africa and Asia are at an increased risk of developing this disease. People with hepatitis B have a higher risk of developing liver cancer, compared to people with other ethnicities. Liver cancer can also be caused by genetics, such as hepatitis B acquired from a parent or sibling. People of all races can be at risk for developing liver cancer, but the disease is most common in people of Asian, Hispanic, and white descent. In addition to genetics, heavy drinking increases the risk of developing liver cancer.
