While there are many people with MS, not everyone has a specific set of symptoms. Multiple sclerosis is a condition in which plaques on the nerve cells of the central nervous system (CNS) disrupt the transmission of signals. These damaged nerve cells are the source of the symptoms of MS. While the exact cause of MS is not yet known, it is believed that it is caused by an immune response or environmental factor. For this reason, there are several treatment options for people who have multiple sclerosis.

Although there are no specific triggers, there are many risk factors for developing MS. Genetics and the environment can both increase the risk. However, MS symptoms don’t usually present themselves until a person experiences a triggering event, such as exposure to drugs or toxins. Hormonal changes may also trigger the disease. Research is currently focused on discovering the genes that cause MS, as well as possible environmental and hormonal triggers. Ultimately, scientists hope to discover a cure for multiple sclerosis.

The most common symptoms of MS include muscle weakness and pain, which can interfere with daily activities. Muscle stiffness and pain may be accompanied by other symptoms. One in four MS sufferers has a problem with one eye. Other symptoms may include loss of vision, decreased hearing, vision problems, urinary tract infections, and changes in perception. If you suspect you have MS, contact your doctor immediately for a diagnosis. Once you have two recent attacks, your doctor will be able to make a final diagnosis.

In addition to the above symptoms, MS patients may also experience neurological complications. The nerve cells of the central nervous system are covered in myelin. The immune system then attacks the myelin, causing scarring and signal interruption. If this happens to a nerve cell, the resulting damage will cause that nerve cell to break down and no longer send signals to the brain. Because of this, the brain and spinal cord are affected.

A thorough neurological examination and history are necessary to diagnose MS. Many diagnostic tests are available. MRIs of the brain and spinal cord can detect MS plaques and slowing of nerve cell function at the sites. A lumbar puncture can be performed to determine the presence of inflammation in the cerebral spinal fluid. Blood tests can also rule out conditions that mimic MS symptoms. You should consult a physician if you experience any of the symptoms.

Inflammation of the spinal cord is one of the most common MS symptoms. Symptoms of this disorder can range from numbness and tingling in the arms and legs to difficulty walking or even feeling the pain of Lhermitte’s sign. Muscle and bladder issues are another common symptom of MS. People with the disease may also experience muscle spasms or tremors. They may also develop problems with bladder function and urinary incontinence. In addition to fatigue, people with MS may also experience difficulty sleeping or feeling colds.

As with any disease, medications are necessary to manage the symptoms of MS. Drugs that suppress the immune system and reduce inflammation may be prescribed. Some are approved by the Government drug purchasing agency. Patients may also have to follow exercise regimes to help them keep their muscle flexibility and reduce muscle stiffness. They may also require a mobility device. If these treatments are not enough to control the symptoms of MS, there are other treatments available.

Relapsing remitting MS is the most common type of MS. This form of the disease features clearly defined attacks and periods of recovery between these attacks. These are called remission periods. The remission periods do not advance the disease. During this time, some symptoms will persist or even worsen. However, there are various types of MS and the best way to treat this condition is through a proper diagnosis.

The signs and symptoms of MS vary from person to person. They can range from mild to severe, and the onset of a relapse or attack depends on the type of disease. In some cases, patients will experience periods of stability followed by another episode. Secondary progressive MS may occur after a relapsing remitting episode. The disease may progress in relapses, which can lead to disability or death.
