Pain and discomfort are some of the most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer. These usually occur in the tail and body of the pancreas, though some patients also report pain in other areas. Abdominal pain is a common symptom of pancreatic cancer, though it may also be due to other diseases. If you experience pain in the stomach or back for longer than two weeks, consult your physician. Listed below are some symptoms that may signal pancreatic cancer.

Yellowing of the skin, dark urine, and itching of the skin are all common signs of pancreatic cancer. If you have these symptoms, you should visit a doctor as soon as possible. You may also experience a blood clot in a large vein, a condition known as deep vein thrombosis. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, or redness in the vein. Chest pain or discomfort may also be a sign of pancreatic cancer.

If your doctor suspects that you have pancreatic cancer, you should be aware that these symptoms can lead to serious side effects. Luckily, pain medication is available to relieve these symptoms. Other treatments can help you cope with the symptoms and ease the pain. Taking time for yourself and talking to a trusted friend or family member can help you feel less isolated. There are also several patient information booklets published by the Pancreatic Cancer Action that can help you understand your symptoms. They also explain various treatment options and how to deal with them.

Another symptom of pancreatic cancer is jaundice. Jaundice is yellowish skin color. About 10% of patients with this cancer have it. This is usually a symptom of a tumor in the tail of the pancreas, but cancers of the tail may cause a more severe case of jaundice. Jaundice can cause pain in the abdomen. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.

There are some lifestyle and genetic factors that increase your risk of pancreatic cancer. Drinking alcohol regularly increases the risk of developing pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas. Heavy drinking is also associated with hereditary pancreatitis. Eating a diet high in red meat, processed meat, sugar, fried foods, and high-cholesterol food may increase your risk of pancreatic cancer.

Another common symptom of pancreatic cancer is blood clots. While blood clots are not indicative of cancer, most are not cancer-related. Diabetes can also occur as a result of pancreatic cancer. The pancreas produces insulin, so a person with diabetes may experience increased thirst, hunger, and frequent urination. If the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are consistent, it’s likely that you have the disease. If you have diabetes, your doctor will order a blood test to identify if your sugar levels are low enough to cause these symptoms.

If you are over 50, you’re at higher risk for pancreatic cancer. Heavy exposure to chemicals at work can increase the risk. Age is another factor. About two-thirds of people with pancreatic cancer are over 65. At diagnosis, they’re on average 70 years old. Men have a slightly higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer than women, and their use of tobacco is linked with increased risk of developing the disease.

Those who have recently lost weight may also exhibit some of these symptoms. Weight loss is more common in cancers of the head of the pancreas. Some people may also experience itchiness in the skin. Additionally, their stools may be light or clay colored. However, the list of symptoms of pancreatic cancer is not exhaustive. People who experience any of these symptoms are advised to see their physician to make sure there is no underlying condition.

Pancreatic cancer has four stages. Stage 0 is called carcinoma in situ and stage 3 is when the cancer has spread to nearby organs and lymph nodes. In stage 4, the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body. While stage 0 pancreatic cancer does not show symptoms until it’s advanced, it can spread to nearby organs and lymph nodes. The cancer in stage 4 has spread throughout the body.

Treatment for pancreatic cancer varies. Surgical removal of the cancerous part of the pancreas is one option. A pancreatectomy, or a “Whippple” procedure, removes the pancreas and the lymph nodes near it. In a modified version, the tumor may be removed along with a section of the stomach. The surgery can be effective in preventing metastases, but it is very invasive.
