In the United States, the cancer is the third-leading cause of death, accounting for about 60,000 new cases each year. It also accounts for the deaths of around 46,000 people each year, and its rates are increasing when compared to other types of cancer. Pancreatic cancer generally occurs in older adults and has a higher incidence in African Americans and Ashkenazi Jews. The pancreas is an oblong organ located behind the lower portion of the stomach. It produces digestive juices and helps regulate blood sugar.

Other symptoms of pancreatic cancer include high temperature and jaundice. A partially blocked pancreas may also cause a high temperature. Some patients may also experience indigestion, which can cause heartburn and bloating. While indigestion is common in many people, if it persists, you should see a doctor immediately. Blood clots may also be a sign of pancreatic cancer. These clots form in the deep veins of the legs, but can also form in other areas of the body.

Although pancreatic cancer does not normally cause jaundice, it is a common symptom of the disease. A person with this cancer typically develops jaundice within the first year of the disease. This type of cancer starts in the abdomen and spreads to the back. Patients often experience back pain, which is worse when sitting up or lying down, and it often gets worse after a meal. Pancreatic cancer can also cause weight loss, which is particularly common in cancer of the pancreas’ head.

A patient with pancreatic cancer may also experience enlargement in the liver or gallbladder. The gallbladder may also grow in size because of the excess bile. Imaging tests can detect liver swelling. Patients with any of these symptoms may also develop diabetes, which is a common symptom. People with diabetes are at a higher risk for this type of cancer than younger people. If this is the case, a physician should consult with you right away.

During the initial phase of the disease, doctors will assess your symptoms and determine the diagnosis. If tests indicate that you have pancreatic cancer, your doctor may recommend a combination of treatment options to reduce the chances of the disease coming back and spreading to other parts of the body. Your doctor may suggest surgery or radiotherapy to remove the tumor. Pancreatic cancer patients may need to undergo a series of tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Although there is no known cause of pancreatic cancer, genetic studies have identified several risk factors for the disease. In fact, the disease is more common in African Americans than in whites, and is linked to certain risk factors, including smoking and being overweight. Those with a family history of the disease may also be more likely to develop it than people without it. Additionally, heavy alcohol consumption, smoking, and unhealthy diets are also linked to increased risk of pancreatic cancer.

Diarrhoea is another common symptom. It may be difficult to pass stools due to the blocked pancreatic duct, causing food to remain undigested. A patient may also experience bowel disturbances and weight loss. These symptoms may not be immediately obvious, but they should be taken seriously. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your doctor to have them checked out. Your doctor can prescribe treatments for the disease.

While early signs of pancreatic cancer are not obvious, they are important. Early symptoms of pancreatic cancer may be attributed to unrelated conditions, and can delay the diagnosis of the disease. However, symptoms of pancreatic cancer may be vague, meaning you need to see a doctor if you are experiencing any new or different symptoms. Eventually, a diagnostic test will confirm the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Jaundice and pain are two other common pancreatic cancer symptoms. Jaundice is a yellowish color of the skin and eyes, but can be painless for around 10% of patients. It may also appear as dark urine or stools. Jaundice is more common in people with cancer of the head of the pancreas, where tumours block the bile duct. This bile then becomes trapped in the blood stream, causing dark urine and stools.

Although cigarette smoking increases the risk of pancreatic cancer, obesity doubles your risk. Additionally, your risk of pancreatic cancer goes up sharply after age 55. People of African descent are at a greater risk for the disease. One study also suggests that a genetic factor accounts for 10% of pancreatic cancer cases. Mutations in the PRSSI gene and the MLH1 or MSH2 genes increase your risk of developing pancreatic cancer.
