Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and parts of the body that control movement. Symptoms can start slowly and get worse over time, but with proper treatment, you can minimize your symptoms and live a normal and active life. Parkinson’s disease can lead to various problems, such as slowness and stiffness of the legs, arm, and hands.

In the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, symptoms may be mild and may not be noticed by others. Medications can help control the symptoms in the early stages. However, by the second stage, symptoms of the disease can become more visible and more difficult to manage. In some cases, patients experience difficulty walking, speaking, and writing.

Parkinson patients should take their medication promptly. If they do not take their medication, the disease can progress rapidly, impairing their daily activities. While these medications can lessen symptoms, they do not change the progression of the disease. Therefore, they may become ineffective over time and patients may need to switch to a different treatment option.

Another early symptom of Parkinson’s disease is changes in voice. This is known as bradykinesia, and it is a common characteristic of people with Parkinson’s disease. The person may have a softer voice or a high pitch, and their facial muscles may move more slowly and rigidly. They may also have difficulty speaking and communicating with others.

Patients with Parkinson’s disease may also experience an involuntary tremor. It affects the hands, arms, and head. Essential tremor is an inherited condition that affects the globus pallidus, a region of the brain that controls muscle tone. Loss of dopamine in this area may lead to hyperactivity and tremor.

People with Parkinson’s disease often struggle with movement because of a lack of dopamine. Luckily, there are treatments for the disorder that can improve the quality of life. There is no cure for the condition, but patients can manage it with medication and lead a normal and independent life. It is important to seek treatment early for the best outcome, as symptoms can vary from patient to patient.
