Parkinson Symptoms vary from person to person and often start off slowly. As time goes on, though, the symptoms may become more apparent and may require the assistance of a healthcare professional to diagnose. Generally, Parkinson’s disease is classified into motor and nonmotor symptoms. The motor symptoms include a lack of coordination and difficulty walking. The nonmotor symptoms are less noticeable and may look similar to other health problems.

Patients with Parkinson’s often first experience symptoms on one side of their body. Eventually, these symptoms may spread to the other side. Although Parkinson’s is not curable, some doctors perform lesion surgeries to relieve the symptoms. In lesion surgery, scar tissue is used to block the area of the brain that causes the tremor.

While a patient with Parkinson’s disease will never be able to slow down the pace of the disease, simple exercises and stretches can help them function more normally. For example, while walking, they should always let their heel hit the floor first and not lean backward. They should also avoid stooping, reaching, or crouching when walking. Moreover, they should keep tripping hazards out of the way.

Parkinson’s disease is caused by an abnormality in the brain’s chemical balance. Normally, neurons in the basal ganglia produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter essential for movement. If these neurons are damaged or die, dopamine levels decrease, which in turn causes problems with gait and posture. It’s still unclear exactly why these neurons die and what causes them to deteriorate.

Exercise is just as important as medication for treating Parkinson’s disease. Exercise helps patients improve balance, flexibility, and strength. It can also help improve mood and decrease depression. A physical therapist can help a patient develop an exercise routine. The physical therapist may suggest activities such as walking, swimming, or stretching. However, patients should exercise carefully and maintain proper posture.

A person with Parkinson’s disease may also experience changes in their walking pattern. They may walk at a faster or slower pace than usual, or may change the length of their stride. These changes may make it difficult for them to communicate with others. Those with Parkinson’s disease should also watch for changes in the quality of their voice. Their voice volume may become lower or softer. They may also lose the ability to smell.

Parkinson’s disease is often inherited, and genetic mutations play an important role in causing this disease. Genetic factors and environmental factors are important factors that influence the severity of the symptoms. Many patients begin to experience symptoms at younger ages. If there is no genetic cause, however, the disease is likely to be idiopathic in nature. It’s important to consult a physician to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.

If your symptoms are severe, your physician may prescribe a trial dosage of levodopa and other medications to ease them. While this is a temporary measure, it may be necessary to take a longer approach before a diagnosis can be confirmed. In general, Parkinson’s disease symptoms develop gradually and become more severe over time.

Motor symptoms include slowness of movement, muscle stiffness, and poor balance. These symptoms can begin in one side of the body and worsen as the disease progresses. Some patients may also experience non-motor symptoms. If you’re concerned about the severity of your symptoms, the Mayo Clinic has a free newsletter that can help you stay informed about the latest in health care.

The doctor may prescribe medication or surgery to control your Parkinson Symptoms. The medications must be carefully monitored and adjusted for your specific case. Deep brain stimulation surgery is an excellent option if your symptoms do not respond to medications. It involves implanting electrodes deep into your brain, which connect to a small generator in your chest. You’re awake during the procedure and may feel some discomfort in the beginning.
