If you have been diagnosed with small bowel cancer, you should consider seeking treatment as soon as possible. Most cancers are relatively rare, but in some cases, small bowel cancer can progress to more serious stages. Thankfully, there are many treatments available for small bowel cancer, and you can often buy them online. If you do experience some of these symptoms, you should consult a doctor to determine whether or not you may have the disease.

The gastrointestinal tract is covered by the small bowel, and it accounts for over 90% of the entire area. Because of its low incidence and nonspecific symptoms, it is difficult to diagnose the disease. In fact, nearly half of the time, the earliest symptom of small bowel cancer is not diagnosed until after the cancer has spread to other areas of the body. Because of this, small bowel tumors are often diagnosed accidentally during imaging or surgery. Consequently, the mean time between onset of symptoms and diagnosis can be years, or even decades, for malignant tumors. The reason for this may be a failure to order appropriate tests or a misinterpretation of imaging studies.

Non-specific symptoms may occur for several reasons. For example, neuroendocrine tumors that spread to the liver can present with nonspecific symptoms. However, the presence of biomarkers may confirm the etiology of symptoms that are otherwise nonspecific. If you experience generalized abdominal pain, for example, your doctor may be more likely to suspect a neuroendocrine tumor. For these reasons, presenting symptoms of small bowel cancer should be interpreted with caution.

MRI and endoscopy are other options for identifying small bowel cancer. These procedures require a small flexible tube to be passed through the mouth or back passage, where an endoscopist will insert a camera. This camera then allows the doctor to view the bowel, and biopsy any suspicious tissue. An abdominal X-ray, meanwhile, shows organs in the abdomen. X-rays are high-frequency sound waves used to create pictures of inside the body.

If you suspect that you may have small bowel cancer, your doctor will likely perform a series of diagnostic tests to determine if there is any other problem. A blood test may reveal signs of infection and changes in the liver’s function, and will help your doctor determine whether you need further testing. Next, a biopsy may be necessary. This procedure will detect if you have any suspicious cells or polyps in your intestine. Once diagnosed, you will have a treatment plan to follow.

Fortunately, most small bowel tumors are benign and do not cause symptoms. In the majority of cases, a biopsy may be enough to determine if you have a cancerous mass. The size of the tumor will determine whether or not it becomes a problem. Once the tumor becomes large enough, it can cause obstruction and ulceration. If you do have small bowel cancer, you should seek medical attention immediately.

While the exact symptoms of small bowel cancer vary from case to case, the commonest symptom is blood in the stool. In severe cases, a tumor may block the intestine. Once this happens, your doctor will perform various tests, including barium x-rays and enteroclysis. Ultimately, the cancerous tumor will be diagnosed and your treatment will depend on its size. In some cases, chemotherapy is recommended to shrink the tumor and treat the associated symptoms.

Other risk factors for small intestine cancer include certain genetic conditions, including familial adenomatous polyposis and Lynch syndrome. Certain bowel diseases can also increase your risk for small bowel cancer, including celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. People with HIV infection, and certain anti-rejection medicines may also have an increased risk of developing this disease. The symptoms of small bowel cancer may be difficult to recognize, and they may not be recognizable as those of colorectal cancer.

While the symptoms of small bowel cancer may not be as dramatic as those of colon or rectal cancer, the diagnosis will determine the best treatment. Depending on how advanced the disease is, doctors may perform exploratory surgery in order to determine whether the cancer has spread throughout the body. Once the tumor has spread, it may spread to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body. Small intestine cancer can spread to other parts of the body, including lymph nodes.

Leiomyomas are another type of small bowel cancer. They develop in the wall of the small intestine. Symptoms can range from intermittent obstruction to bleeding and anemia. In some cases, treatment may include chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It’s important to seek medical care as soon as possible to avoid complications. And remember that even when the symptoms of small bowel cancer are minimal, it is important to seek treatment immediately.
