The first step in diagnosing bowel cancer is to see a doctor. Your doctor will ask you a series of questions about your medical history and current symptoms, and perform imaging tests to show the cancer and its spread. A CT scan can also be done, if necessary, to show where the cancer is located. Small bowel cancer symptoms may be accompanied by other symptoms, including abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, or weight loss.

Depending on the size and location of your tumor, small bowel cancer may be detected at early stages. In this stage, the cancer has already spread to the lymph nodes, liver, and peritoneum (the covering of most abdominal organs). In addition to the size of the tumor, the cancer has spread to other areas of the body. Once discovered, small bowel cancer symptoms can be very difficult to detect.

Small bowel cancer symptoms vary from patient to patient. They may be more noticeable in women than in men. In the early stages, patients may have little to no symptoms. Other symptoms, such as blood in the stool, may not appear until the cancer is advanced. However, this is not always the case and some patients may experience a range of symptoms, including flushed skin, bleeding, and diarrhea. Once diagnosed, treatment will depend on the stage of the cancer.

Other symptoms of small bowel cancer are not so specific and depend on the specific type of disease. Neuroendocrine tumors, which produce hormones, may present with a constellation of symptoms. The presence of biomarkers may confirm the diagnosis. Nonspecific symptoms may be a sign of another disease, such as generalized abdominal pain or a sudden loss of appetite. In these cases, the diagnosis may be delayed until biomarkers are identified.

Other risk factors for developing small bowel cancer include a weakened immune system. The tumors may spread throughout the body. They may even invade other organs, including the liver, ovaries, and endometrium. If this cancer progresses, it may spread to other parts of the body, such as the lungs or lymph nodes. Small bowel cancer is a serious disease, and the sooner it is diagnosed, the better.

Many of the symptoms of small bowel cancer are actually signs of other health conditions. Sometimes, the tumour may not cause noticeable symptoms, and doctors may only discover it accidentally during an unrelated procedure. As such, symptoms may not be apparent until the cancer has already spread to the surrounding tissues. Even then, it may take several years for doctors to diagnose it. The best course of action is to schedule a follow-up visit.

If the tumor has spread throughout the body, it can lead to blockages in the intestine, impairing digestion. Blockages may cause intense abdominal pain. Slow bleeding tumors may lead to anemia. Digestion of blood can cause black or tarry stools. Symptoms can vary greatly and are often misinterpreted for other conditions. Small bowel cancer symptoms can be difficult to diagnose, so it is important to seek medical attention early.

Malignant lesions can appear anywhere in the small intestine, but they tend to be more prevalent in young women. Educating patients and clinicians about the symptoms of small bowel cancer can help them make an informed decision about their care. Patients should learn to identify the first signs of complications, and treatment will depend on the patient’s prognosis. In addition to treatment, patients may receive supportive care or even undergo surgery to remove the tumor.

Despite the numerous symptoms of small bowel cancer, the disease often remains undetected. Diagnosis requires a biopsy and exploratory surgery. Depending on the size of the tumor, an endoscopic ultrasound may be performed to confirm the diagnosis. If a biopsy is necessary, a biopsy is performed to collect tissue for examination. The doctor will then perform additional tests to confirm the diagnosis. If no other signs of the disease are present, a biopsy may be performed.
