One of the most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer is pain, especially in the upper or middle back. This pain often begins in the abdomen and travels to the back, although it can also be the result of another condition. People with pancreatic cancer may also experience weight loss that is not related to eating and drinking, or a lack of appetite. However, the pain and severity of symptoms vary widely. Below is a list of symptoms to watch for.

Among the most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer are pain and jaundice. However, if the symptoms do occur, they should not be ignored because other illnesses can have similar symptoms. While many people connect these symptoms to other conditions, you should still consult a doctor if you experience any new ones. Diagnostic tests will help confirm if the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are indeed related to the disease. However, symptoms of pancreatic cancer should be monitored closely.

Treatment options for pancreatic cancer are based on the stage of the disease. Patients with stage III pancreatic cancer may have tumors that have spread to nearby blood vessels and lymph nodes. Stage IV patients have spread to distant organs. However, if caught early, pancreatic cancer can be cured. Lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight and drinking moderately can help patients live a longer, healthier life.

Other symptoms of pancreatic cancer include a large vein in the abdomen. This is called deep vein thrombosis and may lead to chest pain, swelling, and redness. A blood clot in the lungs can also be a sign of pancreatic cancer. In rare cases, the clot can spread to other parts of the body, including the heart and the lungs. Symptoms may vary, so it is important to seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Another symptom of pancreatic cancer is jaundice. This symptom may not be the most common, but it is usually the first symptom experienced by patients. This is caused by a blockage of the bile duct, which allows bile to flow from the gallbladder to the small intestine. Bilirubin in the body’s fluid causes jaundice. Jaundice may also result in itchiness and light or clay-colored stools.

Exocrine cells and neuroendocrine cells make up the pancreas. Exocrine pancreatic cancer usually starts in the cells that line the pancreatic ducts. Neuroendocrine tumors are more common and tend to be in an advanced stage. While pancreatic cancer is rarer than exocrine tumors, the chances of developing it are much greater if you have long-standing diabetes or a bad diet.

A pancreatic cancer survivor will have a higher chance of survival after a year’s treatment. The survival rate depends on several factors, including how advanced the disease is, the type of treatment, and the stage at which it was diagnosed. People diagnosed with pancreatic cancer today may have a higher chance of survival because of advances in cancer treatment. But a diagnosis is critical. If you or a loved one has symptoms of pancreatic cancer, see a doctor as soon as possible.
