Early-stage Parkinson’s disease symptoms tend to be mild. They are not noticeable to others and may not prompt a diagnosis. However, as the disease progresses, symptoms become more noticeable. These symptoms may include walking problems and decreased muscle strength. The symptoms may also affect balance and thinking. In later stages, the symptoms may become so severe that they require a caregiver or a wheelchair. They can also lead to hallucinations and delusions.

Surgery is one option for treating the symptoms of Parkinson disease. Although it is not a cure for the condition, it can reduce some symptoms and decrease the amount of medication needed to control the disease. The surgery involves scarring tissue in the brain. The procedure is performed while the patient is awake. The surgery focuses on blocking the area of the brain that causes tremor.

Exercise is important for those with Parkinson’s disease. Regular physical exercise can help improve muscle strength, balance and flexibility, as well as relieve depression. Your doctor may suggest an exercise program to help you cope with the symptoms of the disease. Some exercises you may try include walking, swimming or stretching. It’s important to move slowly, and to check your posture to make sure you don’t tremble too much.

Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease can interfere with daily activities and impair cognitive function. Cognitive impairment is a serious aspect of the condition and can affect planning and accomplishing tasks. Depression and stress can also contribute to cognitive changes. If the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease interfere with your ability to think clearly, it’s best to seek medical attention right away.

Parkinson disease is a degenerative neurologic condition caused by a loss of dopamine in the brain. The affected area, called the substantia nigra, produces too little dopamine, which makes it difficult for the brain to control the body’s movements. As a result, Parkinson’s patients have high levels of glutamate in their body to compensate for the lack of dopamine. The loss of dopamine causes a shaking sensation in the hands, arms and legs. This shaking usually decreases as the limbs are used.

While Parkinson’s disease is not curable, the symptoms of the disease can be controlled with medication and other treatments. Proper care can help patients stay independent and avoid the need for expensive and invasive surgeries. Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease can make everyday activities difficult, but if treated early, you can still live an active and productive life.

Some medications are more effective than others in controlling the symptoms of the disease. Levodopa is the primary treatment for Parkinson’s and causes the nerve cells in the brain to produce dopamine. This process helps to replenish the brain’s dopamine supply. The drug is generally taken along with another medication known as carbidopa. This combination reduces side effects and the amount of levodopa needed to treat symptoms.
