You have probably heard about colecterol cancer. However, you may not be entirely sure what it is. It is a type of cancer that grows in the colon. Colon cancer may begin in the mucosa or muscle layer. It can then spread to the lymph nodes or distant organs. Fortunately, colon cancer treatment is relatively simple and can completely eliminate the cancer. However, sometimes the cancer may return after treatment.
The 5-year survival rate for patients with localized stage colorectal cancer is 91%. However, this number drops to 72% for patients with this type of cancer who are diagnosed in the early stages. In later stages, however, the survival rate drops to 15% and is only experienced by about two-thirds of patients. In most cases, the patient may be treated with surgery or chemotherapy. The cancer cells are destroyed by the chemotherapy, which often works to relieve symptoms.
