Initially, Parkinson Symptoms may only affect one side of the body, but as the disease progresses, it may affect both sides. The main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease include slowed movement and a decrease in ability to walk. Patients may not lose their balance or walk unaided, but they may be unable to live alone. Eventually, the symptoms may lead to depression and sleep disorders. Parkinson Symptoms can also cause a decrease in muscle strength, which makes it dangerous to live alone.

Other symptoms of Parkinson’s disease include a rhythmic shaking. These movements may also cause a person to shuffle, walk with shorter steps, and lose their sense of smell. Patients may also develop increased depression and anxiety. If these symptoms persist or worsen, they should visit a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

Surgical treatments can help control the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. While these procedures do not cure the disease, they can greatly reduce the amount of medication required to control the symptoms. A surgeon can place a lesion to stop the area of the brain that causes the patient to tremble. This procedure requires less medication and is usually done while a person is awake.

Diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease requires a neurological examination and a medical history. Imaging tests may be necessary to rule out other medical conditions, and can help confirm a diagnosis. However, lab tests may not be necessary. Your doctor will probably order a neurological exam and check your symptoms to rule out other possible causes. In addition to these tests, your doctor may also run a blood test to rule out other illnesses.

Exercise is an essential part of treatment for Parkinson’s disease. Exercise helps patients improve their muscle strength, balance, and range of motion. It can also reduce the patient’s feelings of depression. Physical therapy may include exercises like walking, swimming, and stretching. Patients should be cautious when exercising and should watch their posture.

Parkinson’s disease is caused by the degeneration of specific groups of nerve cells in the brain. These nerve cells produce dopamine, a chemical that helps the body control movement. When dopamine levels are low, movement-related symptoms will become more severe. The disease also affects nerve endings that produce norepinephrine, a hormone involved in automatic body functions. The disease is progressive and can’t be cured. Nonetheless, medications can help a patient manage the symptoms and live a relatively normal life.

If drugs don’t work, a surgical procedure known as deep brain stimulation may be an option. The procedure involves implanting electrodes in part of the brain. They are connected to a small electrical device positioned in the chest. Deep brain stimulation may stop the symptoms of Parkinson’s, such as wriggling and tremor.

The most common treatment for Parkinson’s is levodopa, which replenishes the dopamine in the brain. It is commonly combined with another medication, carbidopa, which delays levodopa’s breakdown and increases its availability in the brain. Other medications may also be prescribed, including dopamine agonists. Dopamine agonists are similar to levodopa in that they mimic the brain chemical dopamine. They may be used as bridge medications when levodopa is ineffective. However, they can have side effects.
